On my new Tacoma Access cab, both doors are hard to close.

Even with a window open, you really have to give it a hard slam.

With my previous 2006 Tacoma SR5, just a mild push and it closes just fine.

The latch hook is secured by two Torx head screws, T40's. I'm thinking of loosening those, move the latch out slightly, secure the screws and then trying it.

Has anybody else had the problem and tried moving the latch hook?

    Thanks for your comments and

    Happy New Year everyone.

I noticed that too. I attribute it to the ample weatherstripping around the doors. That will probably compress over time.

I don’t notice it any more. Not sure if I adjusted or something like the weather stripping has compressed a bit as suggested.

I do think the doors are a little lighter and require a bit more momentum to shut compared to the VW GTI I came from. There’s a lot of small fit and finish details that seem a bit lacking in the Tacoma but I’m still quite happy :)

Definitely have to slam my doors shut on my new '21. With a normal amount of effort, the doors bounce back some and won't close properly. Interesting point about the weather stripping breaking in.

My 2017 was easy to close the driver's side door. I could even nudge it closed if it didn't fully seat. My 2020 does take a bit more effort, but I haven't noticed that on the rear doors. I'm not sure how the access cab would compare regarding that.

There have been a few posts on here regarding how hard the door is to close. All you need to know is that it is normal.

Yep, I guess it's normal for the newer trucks having doors hard to close.

I'm not used to it yet compared to my '06 that closed very easy and closed like a bank vault.

I was wondering if anyone had tried moving the door latch out just a little.

    Thanks for all your thoughts.

    Any more comments?

I've considered adjusting the latch, but never attempted it. Maybe I'll get around to it one day just to see.

My drivers door was hard, the passenger was not. So I just adjusted the latch and now they both close nicely.

I agree, I’m sure the weather stripping will compress. My wife just picked up her new 4Runner this past week and I noticed the same thing when closing the doors.

Ah, good. That's what I was wondering, ie, adjusting the latch.

And I do have the required T40 Torx head driver to loosen the latch.

I suppose, just move it a little and gauge the success/ease of closing the door.

    Thank you R4...etc.

It gets easier with use. Just needs to be “broken in” as there is a good amount of weatherstrip to push against. I’d give it a few more months and then consider adjustment if needed

Thanks VB, I'll give it some time. There's no hurry for sure. Just push/pull a little harder.

After a few months, can adjust the latch if needed.

I hope this thread helps some other "hard to close the door" users also.

Look at the door alignment when it's shut. Is it flush with fender and other door? If so, it does not need adjusted. If, when it's shut it is sunken in, move the striker out. Those adjustments are for alignment.

I noticed you have to slam the doors hard too, especially the back doors. Let's say the kids help me notice it. I attribute it to the doors being lightweight.

The newer 20/21's are have better sealing and are a bit quieter...the downside of that is that the doors are a little harder to close to create a better quieter seal...I had a 2016 now a 2020 and that is one of the big differences in the 2 trucks besides the electronic doo dads

    Door alignment is perfect.

And thanks to the others that pointed out that the seal around the door has changed to make it quieter. And it is. And harder to close the door as a result.

I suppose that's better than having them rattle as you go down the road or trail.

When new, my 2020 door needed a bit of effort to close. A year later, they close quite a bit easier.

They will close better as you use the truck, mine did this and now I do not notice it
