2021 Tacoma Extensive Frame Rust All around on Welding Spots

Drove out back of my local Toyota dealer and there was an old frame sitting by the dumpster. Still happening here. They are a poor design/material but we can prolong the inevitable for awhile with good treatments over the years

 

Brand new 4Runner limited we purchased September 2018 came with surface rust on frame welds and some of the hardware. Had the Toyota regional team look at it and they said it was fine and it would be noted. 5 years later and it is doing fine. Every now and then I will hit it with fluid film but haven’t really bothered the last few years. Drive it and enjoy it.

 

There’s actual frame rust, and then there’s this. It’s honestly hard for me to imagine having the kind of time and energy the OP has to spend worrying about this little bit of surface weld oxidation (I can’t even call that rust, it’s so insignificant). Tell me you don’t know shit about cars without saying you know don’t know shit about cars.

 

DO NOT go with a rubberized undercoating. Ever. Go With Krown Rust proofing, Fluid film, etc . Once a year in September have it applied and flush the underside in spring. I Apply in spring and fall myself.

Really depends where you live driving these trucks. 10 years without any rust protection, and you'll end up needing new parts. Between the heavy salt, and brining combined with the wet roads, and humidity, its a haven for rust.

 

The boomers have literally all the time in the world to annoy us with their petty bullshit haha

Clean and prep the rust areas properly. Clean the rest of the frame. Use POR 15 Topcoat ****not the rust preventative paint****on the entire frame. And be done with it.
