With the RAV prime using a 2.5 with over 300 hp, it’s apparent that hp and torque is just as dependent on battery size. So, I see the taco as a four cylinder hybrid. The E motor replaces the need for a turbo. The Ranger has over 300 Ft lbs of torque from a 4 turbo. A taco with the four in hybrid form should push 30 mpg and develop the same power. A v6 is overkill in a Taco hybrid imo

If toyota has anything other than a 300+ hp v6 or turbo 4 they haven’t been paying attention.

Seriously, I wouldn’t be interest in any turbo nor a v6 tuned to 300 hp. Give me a normal aspirated four with electric motors anytime. It has been proven reliable for decades. The e motors are torque machines. making tradition trannys obsolete, practically eliminating a major mechanical problem.

Ha ha......all day. Electric motors are practically immune to over gearing. The military gets it. Electric power for off roading is the ultimate.

Unless its more powerful & faster than what we have now (and add an 8sp transmission, thats another one) it’ll be a waste.

All hybrids from Toyota thus far have CVTs. You’ll have all the gears you want...like infinite. Unlike cvts found in non hybrids, they use a planetary gear set without a belt and have been shown to be more reliable then even the automatics Toyota has used.

I believe the RAV 4 prime has a non turbo four banger.

    This.

As much as enthusiast would say otherwise, they would simply sell more with a 4banger + electric than big powerful v6 that sucks up on gas.

I mean really, the earliest we can use electric drive motors, the sooner we’ll get rid of the ICE. ICE motors are as obsolete in motor vehicles as wax records are for stereos. We’ll never know how bad they comparably are till we take the plunge.

There was an article where the head of toyota USA hinted at a tacoma hybrid. Pretty sure it's coming whether it's with current tacoma or the TNGA-F is the question.

Doubt it's going to be implemented on the 3rd gen.

Our RX uses the same engine and is hybrid, I can see Toyota using the same Hybrid model but it wont get 35, maybe 25

As far as the RAV is concerned, the hybrid is less then a one K option. ( not the prime) and gives performance similar to others with a turbo four but with a huge jump in mileage. It’s the very simple but reliable transmissions that Toyota hybrids use that make it possible to have fewer moving parts overall. It’s a gear, not belt drive CVT. We may have no choice, like several models come only in hybrid from Toyota now, eventually Tacos may be the same.

I hear you. But, hybrids tend to do better around town. The wind resistance kills a truck off road type chassis. Agree, you may see 25 on highway but get 30 around town. Shouldn’t that be a hoot.

That hybrid 4 is probably what it will be. Not bad but not inspiring either.

Exactly. Power in a good way. E motors may appear to have similar torque ( 280 ft lbs all e motors ) but it comes on at near zero all the way to its rev limit. Imo, no gas motor can tough it.
Toyota isn’t saying, but from what I’ve read, the RAV prime has 300 ft lbs plus, much of which is before the gas motor even comes on.
