Hey all! I am/was the proud new owner of a 2021 Toyota Tacoma. I bought it one month ago with 3000 miles....immediately started having issues with surging/hesitation/bucking. Almost as if there was a hesitation in fuel flow. The dealership treated me like I was a dumb girl and balanced the tires. I refused to take the truck until they actually listened and fixed the issue. They have now had my truck for 2 weeks!! They called today and said it's normal. I grew up with greasy hands and am not a "dumb girl"...grrr! Anyone else having this issue?? Beyond frustrated! I know there have been fuel pump issues in past years....2017-2020....still fixing recalls...maybe that...maybe coils?

Yes I insisted they ride with me and the shop foreman felt the issue.

What rpm range are you experiencing this? If it’s in the lower rpm’s while adding light to mid throttle (it doesn’t kick down a gear) the truck doesn’t like it. I am under the impression it’s the Atkinson cycle paired with the auto transmission causing less than favorable results.

I have found the transmission may learn your driving habits, but more importantly the driver learns the transmission’s driving habits:turtleride:

    Welcome to TacomaWorld
I have heard it takes a thousand miles for 3rd Gens to start learning your driving characteristics.
Maybe the 1st 3,000 miles were put on by many different drivers.

I bought mine new with 8 miles. It has a little a 1k miles on it. It took about 700 miles to become predictable. I am happy with it now, I know throttle position and it doesn’t jump up to next gear unnecessarily. At least for now

Welcome, does it do it when it’s cold then goes away when at operating temp my truck when it’s cold will buck/hesitate also it is a known problem with these trucks, the truck will always try to upshift/or change gears to try to save mpg which turns into a horrible driving experience

    It's a secret
Majority of the time it is in fact the ECU and its overly complex algorithm attempting to learn, map, and form a profile of your average driving habits...average speed, level of accelerator pressing, cruising speed, etc... Off the factory line it will perform as conservative as retardedly possible to "show off" to the owner it's fuel economy, before "getting to know you."

Indeed... For the first 4000 miles or so, I kept mine in S5 and always toggled ECT on. Since then it has learned the zoomies and doesn't lag on my skinny-pedal pressure.

Sounds like the foreman isn't relaying the issue to the rest of the team correctly. Like people have said, keep pressure on them and hopefully they actually fix it.

Have them check the transmission fluid level. Mine did the same thing and my level was low.

I don't understand the miles. 3000 miles you put on it? Or they sold ypu a truck with 3000 miles on it and called it new?

Mine kind of hesitates when I’m easy on the throttle. I’ve learned to kick it in the flanks and make it go. Shifts smoothly in higher rpms.

I have ~700 miles now and kinda agree with some of the other people and you having a little hesitation issues but waiting for this supposed 2-3k miles to learn my habits.
