You know why all the fast food places have help wanted signs in the window?
Because the people who used to do those jobs are now on youtube and instagram influencing millions of dumbass people.

Whatever it takes to get clicks. OP got owned.

For sure. Even though I might pride myself as being a critical thinker, I find I have to catch myself sometimes. “Do I really need this crap? This upgrade? These tires? This gear ratio?” or am I just being sold on an idea that was seeded in my head through this new form of subtle advertising.

That would be similar to what we just got in 2020 though. New headlight option, different grill, different wheels on Sport and Limiteds, updated tech, etc. The 2021 models are already out, so any changes would be in the middle of a model year, which would be out of the ordinary for Toyota trucks.

True, though I wouldnt put it past toyota to do so. They have some big competition right now.

True. Even though I’m not interested in the other midsize trucks, I’m very happy that the segment is growing and there’s actual competition. That’s good for us consumers. I would be surprised if Toyota did a mid-year refresh, but Toyota did a mid year refresh on the Camry back in 2015 (I think?), so I guess anything is possible. Toyota is just usually slow and methodical in their approach to trucks.

‘Slow and methodical’ is certainly the driving experience they shoot for.

If we go back to the 80s and 90s it seemed like everyone and their mamma was making a small truck, but most of them failed.

The Ranger is proving to be a bust
The Frontier has always had mostly dismal numbers and I expect the new one to follow the same path
The Ridgeline is proof that there's only so many middle aged women looking for an urban truckster, plus the price is insanity.
The Gladiator is proof that people are stupid. I have yet to see my local dealer stock one that's not top spec for $42k plus. It also comes with FCA quality standards.
The Bronco, unsure what to make of this, I suspect it will sell well and eat into Wrangler sales.

I don't think the Ranger is a bust, that said l personally don't like it at all. But it passed all the other trucks to be in a distant 2nd place in sales behind the Tacoma. It was a half assed effort by Ford to just grab an international truck and modify it enough to sell here, 2nd place is not that shabby for what little they invested in it.

Umm...remember 1995? That was a fairly thorough mid year refresh.

Still a different situation, though. Going from a global model to one designed for the North American market. From my understanding, it also hadn’t just went through a refresh in the previous model year. Of course, I was a kid at that time, so I don’t have all of the details for that one. I still wouldn’t bet on Toyota refreshing the Tacoma in the middle of a model year when they just invested the time and money to refresh it the prior year.

"Although it’s unconfirmed to this point, reports have indicated the truck will premiere later this year and will be powered by a twin-turbo V6. It could come with a hybrid option to improve torque, power, and fuel economy."

A twin-turbo V6 on a 3rd Gen Tacoma would be real sweet! Not sure on a Tundra, but I guess it works on the F-150 ecoboost 3.5L V6's.
