I can't tell you why it locked with the FOB inside, but not unlocking while the FOB is inside is working the way it should. When you try to unlock the door using passive entry, the vehicle sends a challenge to any known keyfobs. When your FOB responds to the challenge, it also includes some signal measurements it took, and the vehicle use these to calculate the FOB position. It won't unlock the doors using the response from a FOB inside the vehicle. If it did, any Tom, Dick or Harry (apologies now to any T/D/H reading along) could walk up to your truck and open a locked door at any time a FOB was present inside.

So there isn't the senors required to prevent one from locking keys inside the vehicle?

Mine was fairly well used when I got it in fact it was a car at the time I bought because the car I had was totaled by some but head that rear ended. Any how the prelude was like the first good running car I found. since I was back to working taking classes at the time I needed it like the week before and I was able to get it with my insurance check and have cash to spare.
But that car was fun. Drove like a go cart and was quick for the time. I had it 4 years and sold it to my cousin. It wasn't much trouble either. Then it got passed around the family till it rusted to much to pass inspection and got driven to the scrap yard.... It wasn't about dying.

I never thought about that, I'm not worried about locking my gas cap, if someone wants to put some gas in my truck they are more than welcome lol

Smart key cannot be easily locked inside the car.

Non-smart key cannot be locked easily with the key in the ignition.

This is pretty much the case for all cars that I can think of, but I may be wrong on that. Why put all the sensors for a smart key system into a car without a smart key just to prevent locking the key in the car?

2020 Lexus Hybrid. keys locked inside. keys fell under the seat. DW thought she lost the keys. After a while doors locked as if the keys not near by.

We thought it wasn’t possible either.

Yeah, auto relock may be excluded from the same logic. That’s interesting. May need to try that on my older Lexus and see if it is similar. I suspect it is.

No it won't. Cars now come with antisiphon gas necks. Gas thieves now walk around with a cordless drill and drill a hole in the bottom of your gas tank. Easier and quicker than attempting to siphon gas.

That's true, however a locking cap still has one thing it can do. Stop someone from putting sugar or other things that shouldn't go in the tank as an act of vandalism. We had a post here the other week where I guys truck got sugared.

people do different things with their trucks. At work, I'm constantly in and out of my truck getting tools. I don't want to hear the constant beeping when the key is in the ignition and a door open, so I take the key out and place on the seat. I did this the other day and shut the door and I was locked out. Now, I don't think this is what should happen, maybe I hit the lock button on the FOB pulling out of the ignition.
But to say someone's keys should ONLY be in the ignition or your pocket is wrong.

Didn't you get a spare plain metal toyota key when you bought the truck?

Its prevented those bozo's during halloween from dumping chit in my truck. Happens every year around that time, even blowing up mailbox's....found pieces of mine all over the place one year. State police actually caught the 4 guys involved later that night. Never got restitution for the mailbox...judge said 20 hrs of public service was enough punishment.

That's BS especially if they were over 18. 20 hrs. community service is great but they should have each had to also pay a portion of the cost to repair private property they damaged.
messing with mail is also a Federal thing, years ago an older cousin got caught with friends doing mailbox baseball and stealing checks. They didn't get off easy but that was several decades ago.

You just proved my point. You did exactly what i avoid by keeping the keys in the ignition or my pocket. All I am saying is you WILL lock your keys in the truck if you put them anywhere but in your pocket or the ignition.

I dont care what any of you guys do.

My 2017 SR5 only autolocks the door if you use the fob and don’t open the door in x amount of time. I just tried and can lock it with FOB and key inside and unlock it with fob and key inside.
