So, I still have a1st green, maybe no room to talk. However, I hear that some people have regeared to 4.88 or 5.29 and get better mpg, torque response and less gear finding issues.
    True or myth?

Do this stuff for thee hours, then look at your tank average. Highway avg. looks real good compared to wheeling around sand hills in stock form.

    Work in progress...
My wife just got a new Ford Edge with the 2.7 and that thing gets awfully low mpg. The mpg seem to be increasing slowly as it gets more miles on it. The first tank or three of gas it was getting 11.5 or so. It is now getting just over 20 mpg.

I have always averaged around 20. Mostly stop and go with an average speed of 30-40. Does better on road trips, which I've only taken a few. 3800 miles on my 2018 which I bought new in 2018!!

Another one for winter gas. Stock TRDOR4x4 with E load 32’s in the winter gives me 15-16mpg, but summer blend gets me easily 17, but rarely above 18. It’s like no matter what speed I drive, it’s basically pinned at 17mpg (in summer).

Just saw this thread. I just did a 400 mile trip 99% highway (no cruise) and barely got 16MPG in my 2021 Pro plus it seemed pretty gutless in 5th gear. My 2017 TRD OR would have been at 18-19. It should be essentially the same engine and drivetrain and nothing in my driving habits have changed. I know it's a truck so MPG is secondary but it sucks going from 19 to 16 MPG.

I noticed the same with my sr5...all summer it averaged better than 23 mpg. I've been around 20 mpg all winter. my driving habits haven't changed either.

Well it settled I’m not the only with this issue. I have a 2021 Tacoma TRD off-road with a locking rear differential. I’m averaging between 16 to 18 miles a gallon city driving.

I might drive like a old timer, but I have averaged 21.5 for the 1st 500 miles. We will see where it goes from here.

These trucks even with the pseudo Atkinson cycle and double overdrive (autos atleast ) still don’t manage to get great fuel economy. Before a regear and LRE tires my truck barely got better mileage than my dually Cummins, after the mods it is slightly worse.
