2021 Tacoma VS Ford Bronco - Thoughts?

I've never understood why someone would care about the 0-60 time for a truck or sports utility vehicle, but heck, all the major manufacturers seem to be listing it these days.

As for Mustangs, Challengers, 5 Series, etc., I agree. Acceleration is great if you can't maintain it through the turns/twisties. Nothing like getting passed by a 20 year old Miata

 

I see a slim chance of either. As a Wrangler/Tacoma owner I could see more Wranglers being traded for Broncos than Tacomas. At least it's a somewhat similar platform. Where would I put my dirt-bike?

 

So you get an idea how quick the vehicle is?

 

I like having a pickup bed. Ford bronco is too small if I were looking for an SUV

 

I am one of the few that actually likes the looks of the new bronco and what Ford has done overall. But if you asked me to trade my Taco, 4runner or my old Rubicon, the answer would be no. But that doesn't mean I can't like it.

I think it looks great with the Sasquatch package. Had Ford been interested in giving me a proper trade in value and been able to actually get me a Bronco I wanted I'd have gone for one, but alas a new Mojave is on order...........

As for speed, well I can say my Diesel ZR2 is really really slow! Some extra vroom would really be nice. Tuning it is not on my agenda since it likes to go to the dealership for regular check engine lights related to emissions or fuel delivery. It does however drive an immeasurable amount better than my 2018 TRD Off-road Tacoma on basic Eibach suspension. But the Tacoma has much more vroom on the road, when it actually shifts gears properly..

 

I just checked what the new ones are compared to my 1990 with 351W. Now I did some performance motor work putting out 430hp and 405 ft lbs but I’ll post stock numbers, I have them from my ‘90 2 door.

It is comparable size/weight wise. But but ugly IMO.

I preferred the 78-79 ones with solid axle front, but never could find one in decent shape that wasn’t someone’s project or bad frame-gone wrong here in Northeast.

To get a 351 Windsor to 430 hp it's more than "some" performance work. Always liked the OJ Broncos.

Honestly. I want one bad. But based on what I’m hearing about shortages of parts, I’d never get one the way I want it. I’d want a badlands Sasquatch hard top with towing package. And all 3 of those each in themselves are said to lengthen the time it takes to get one built. So all 3 together means I’d probably never get the thing. So I picked up this 2021 Tacoma TRDOR back before thanksgiving. The only thing I regret is the amount of modifying it’s going to take to be able to run 35’s. Even 33’s
Isn’t going to be cheap, to do it right. Bronco comes with either of those from the factory and is ready to hit the trails day one. My Tacoma is not. But I do love this little truck.

 

Well, I am selling my 911 turbo in spring. I was considering a late model land cruiser or a built rubicon. I might throw this in the mix. My wife hates the looks. She much prefers the jeep and the 4runner.

 

As for tire size/fitment I ran the Toyo Open Country MT 255/85r16 that have a diameter of 33.5 inches with NO trimming after a 2 inch lift and acceptable alignment, this was on stock TRD OR rims. That's only 0.5 inches less overall clearance gain from 35's that require a shit ton of work to fit.... There is also the new Mickey Thompson 288/85r17 AT that measure in at 34.6 diameter, a great option if you must have the current what is considered a 35 inch tire.

 

New bronco is low-T. Should come with Thornbirds from the factory.
