I have a brand new 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport 6 speed manual. Only 1000km on it. Before I take it back to dealership for a look just wanted to see if anyone’s had this problem.

Just as I shift into third gear I hear a short whistling sound moderately loud, lasts about 2 seconds but it’s really annoying. I do hear it for same amount of time at random times at higher speed but not very loud but always at 3rd gear.
    Any thoughts? Calling dealer tomorrow.

You might be hearing the whistling noise from the holes in the lower control arms. Usually happens at relatively low speeds such as 25-30 mph.

I had the same experience with this as well. My 2 month old 2020 TRD A/T sport did the same thing. Mentioned it here and was mocked.

As it wasn’t really a big deal I just gave up on finding out what it might be. Also with a new vehicle I’m guessing it’s just some sort of quirk I’d get used to after more time with it.

I’m at 1,900km’s now and haven’t noticed it lately. However it’s been pissing rain here every day so I’m not sure if that has masked the sound.

That problem should long be gone as the factory started putting plugs in the arms in 2017, however it never hurts to double check

My 2020 did this and it had the plugs in the lower control arms. I've test driven a bunch of 2020 and 2021 Tacomas in the past year...and heard the same whistle on those at least a couple times. My 2021 will probably do it, but too soon to tell. At this point I have no idea why it happens, but it does. Sometimes.

I have a 21 manual. I have driving for the last week with no radio, just quiet - nice change . I have not noticed the whistle BUT will certainly be on the lookout for it now.

I’ve come to accept all sorts of different noises the Tacoma makes. Creaks and whistles don’t bother me much anymore. If you’re of the ocd nature this truck is not for you :cheers:

OP how many decibels is the whistle (loudness)? Not a mechanical"whine" but a definite whistle? Seriously

Does it sound anything like the video in the thread above? Could be the A/C expansion valve noise. Usually only lasts a few seconds when the AC compressor kicks on under load.

https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-tacoma-a-c-noise.550627/ (Massive thread - it's a discussion related to two separate sounds from the AC, the whistle and a "Darth Vader" breathing sound)

It’s your ac. It doesn’t happen when ac is off right? It sounds like when you run your finger around the top of a wine glass right? If yes, then it’s your ac. Mine been like that since new, it’s been 3 years now. Didn’t go to the dealer for them to mess it up. My ac still ice cold. It seldom happens now.
