After calling dealerships all over the west coast, I finally found a dealership that would help me with an order (without being $6,000 over MSRP). I ordered a '21 Pro in LR a week before Thanksgiving... Over a month later my salesman still does not even have an estimated production/build date. I guess that just means I'll have more $ saved for the down payment!

But with all the excitement/anticipation I got my sister all excited and now she's interested- while visiting her for Christmas, we drove an hour to the nearest Toyota dealer in SoCal just so she could see the LR color in person, turns out not a single person working at the dealership has seen it in person either. They had 2 Tacomas (2020s) on the lot, and not a single Tundra. One salesman also said they don't have any new Tacomas (or Tundras or RAV4s) coming in and sounds like none for the surrounding dealers either. If you're on the west coast, especially in SoCal and you want a Tacoma/Tundra/RAV4 you might wanna order it soon!

Maybe I'll finally get mine in April:fingerscrossed:

Fly East. Buy one and drive it back. :).

I am in NY, but the place I bought from was in CT. They are down to 13 !

Honestly, I don't know how they manage to get all of those vehicles. We were told they were all allocated to CA ... :)

@averagejp I'm getting a Pro through a dealership I found in Oregon. Still haven't signed the dotted line since I don't have a VIN yet. The dealer tells me they're just not making them as fast because of the move and COVID. When I ordered the OR dealer told me it's a good thing I want a Tacoma and not a 4Runner. I guess 2021 4Runners are super tough to get there. Apparently all Toyotas are hard to find in SoCal.
I did visit a Toyota dealership in NorCal in November and they had 07 RAV4s in the Lunar Rock so I did get to see the color in person and at various times of day- it definitely seems to change colors in different lighting. Sometimes it looks like cement, while others it's a blue or a green.
In the meantime I'll have a ton of MODs all saved up and ready to install.

I see 21's in stock on most dealer sites around here. I don't see any 20's listed at all. There seems to be more new trucks on the lot than what is listed on line when I pass the local dealerships. I have also seen some LR Tundras on the lot. Just last month there was some AG Tacoma Pros still listed. There does not seem to be an a abundance of new Toyota trucks available, but it does not look like a shortage to me. There seems to be more new Tacomas avalible than new Rangers.

Good for you ! And, good luck locking down the paperwork.

What is weird is that they keep reporting product availability is low (I was forecasting that March / April Tacoma availability would stabilize) but there are plenty of Tacomas here in NY / CT. I looked at a few dealers close to me and we have like 50 Tacomas available. You would think they would just allocate them to CA since that is by far the largest market. Gee, it is almost as if they want to keep the prices artificially high there.

You are right about the 4Runner. I went to look at one (we can still get them here but they are not as plentiful as the Tacomas are) and the dealer (who is very nice) said they can't negotiate on price because they sell every 4Runner they make.

Best of luck to you on the new purchase !

    :)

Where are you located? We have a lot of Tacomas here. I am not sure about Rangers, though. I stopped looking. :)

I know a salesman at a local Ford dealership through a mutual friend. The last time I talked to him I asked about the new Ranger, his response was something like "yeah, we have a couple on the lot. We get a lot of lookers but most buy an F150. If you're interested in one (hell no) I can make you a deal selling one as a Demo"

I don't think Rangers are hard to come by for dealers, they just have a hard time selling one when the average Ford buyer can get an F150 for about the same price.

4Runners are one of the few Toyotas still made in Japan. Imports have probably slowed big time due to Wuhan flu.

This is my point. Extreme shortage in CA and high dealer markups but plentiful in the North East (lumping PA in the North East). As I keep saying it is almost by design.

By the way, in NY I mostly only see Sports ... rate to see a TRD OR and I've never seen a Pro.

What does it feel like in PA?

There is a good mix of Sports, ORs and SRs. I probably see more Sports than anything followed by ORs, then SRs and a few Pros.

Most dealerships I've seen here only get a few Pros, some only one or two. The smaller volume dealerships will get maybe one of the special colors each year - and some not any.

I got the only 2020 AG Pro sold by the dealership I bought from here in PA - the local one was popping a $5K markup on them - but told me they would give me a "special" price.

We ordered a TRD Pro in LR on October 15th. Got a build date a couple of weeks later, but it got delayed by about a week. The truck was built on Nov. 23rd and after another delay, was finally delivered to our dealer on Dec. 19th. So, just about 2 months from the date we ordered it. Only option I got was the remote tailgate lock.

How many of these are actually ON THE LOT/IN POSSESSION though? These could be allotments, not physical trucks.

I know a few dealers here in CDN advertising trucks on their websites that do not physically have the truck. When called and questioned they'll admit that that is only an allotment and you can put down a deposit.

I've been waiting for my '21 OR AC MT since I put down a deposit down back in early September. There are NONE in Canada - but they do appear on dealer websites.
In fact my ETA to the dealer has been pushed back a week later to late January. And I wouldn't be surprised if it's pushed back further.

AT least 1/2 of them are on the lot now including the LR Pro - web site reflects actual pictures.

There is a Thread in this section which l think was titled "By The Numbers" and has an attached article explaining how the Tacoma is dominating the Mid-sized truck category. Anyway it breaks down and said the Off Road accounts for 50% of all Tacoma sales, wish it broke down all the other Trim Levels on how they add up to the other 50% though.

FWIW I’m in So.Cal. and my local dealer (Toyota of Orange) is listing 69 ‘21 Taco’s on their site in various trims on their website. They also list one ‘20 Taco as well.

I don’t Know where it was headed but yesterday I saw a car hauler headed north on the 5 in Irvine loaded with new Tacos so they’re out here. My guess is the high-volume dealers are getting them before the smaller ones.
