I normally so “no” to extended warranty for Toyota products. I am seriously reconsidering purchasing one for my 3.5L Tacoma.

It’s only a matter of time on the 2021 since it’s fairly new. It’s not as widespread as it appears to be considering the volume of tacomas sold. Seems like some get it some don’t. Hope mine won’t get it. 2017 70t plus miles and a long road trip coming up.btw I do oil changes every 5t miles if it matters

Not really anything to fix, your talking about probably (as there is not hard data on it) few dozen failures out of 1.5 million trucks. There is no way to manufacture an engine in such a way that you won't have ANY quality failures, but Toyota is still the best in the business at making reliable engines. The internet blows what few problems do happen WAYYYYY out of proportion to the actual failure rate.

My New Year’s resolution on the advice of my buddy( who is a toyota master tech)is to stay off the 3rd gen forum so I can go back to enjoying my super reliable 2018 v6 Tacoma instead of worrying it’s gonna grenade at any second

Not even a Tacoma engine. The CCN is probably a good mechanic, but don't forget he uses click bait titles to reel you in for them views, and that equals $$

Your buddy is a wise man!
He should check in and read the stuff on here, or maybe he already has?

He says he’s heard of the failed engines/burned valve occurrences but by no means is it wide spread or anything to lose sleep over . He sees close to 100 cars a day go thru his shop and said they’ve not really seen any . He’s heard of the failures but told me to get the hell off the forum and go back to enjoying my truck . He’s been there over 20 years so I trust his judgement
