    2022 Audio upgrades thinking about

    Skar box https://www.skaraudio.com/products/...-double-cab-L-VS-1X10TOY-TACOM-2016-UP-DBLCAB

    Kicker Upgrade speaker kit https://trailgridpro.com/products/k...SIwIoq5Me2TL_P89s8Soj6ALgbu432DhoCvK0QAvD_BwE

and an amp like this one? https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20646CX81T/Kicker-46CXA800-1T.html?tp=35834

A couple questions: Crutchfield is suggesting a $180 amp wiring kit. Is that overpriced?

I think the speakers are pretty DIY-able, while I don't know much about wiring up amps. Any issues with doing the speakers ourselves a head of time and then having the amp and sub installed?

Are there really any good dual sub boxes? All I've found are some cheaper one and seems like you have to do some disassembly behind the seats. is the 2nd sub worth it over the single Skar?

The Skar is listed as 500W RMS and the amp at 800W - is it ok just to lower the level on the amp? The next amp down is 400W and I thought it might be better to have a bigger amp down leveled verses a smaller amp running at max RMS?

Any other tip/tricks/recommendations here? Do we need some harness to connect the amp to the factory head unit?

Single vs dual subs really just depends on your bass preference. I’ve got a single 12” in my truck running 400w rms and it’s plenty for my use. But back when I was in high school, I had dual Kenwood 12’s running 1000w rms each and I had to remove the rear seat to fit them. Priorities change lol

to fit dual subs, you have to remove all of the plastic bins along the back wall. If you don’t use the storage, that shouldn’t be a problem. It’s a few 10mm bolts and some plastic clips. Completely reversible if you want to put them back in down the road.

you’re on track with the amp thinking. If you have a multi-meter, you can get the gain on the sub set correctly fairly easily and not risk damaging the subwoofer.

I would look into an amp for the door speakers because the radio power ain’t going to cut it. The kicker key is worth the price and does a great job for a budget system. You can do all of this install yourself and no need to pay a shop.

the subwoofer amp will need a power wire kit but it does not need to be the expensive one the recommend. SKAR4ANL-OFC on Amazon is just fine, and $55.

Grab these while you’re on there
