Alright, not necessarily looking to roast anybody, but the paint on my silver ‘22 sucks balls. It’s a delicate snowflake apparently…

This is compared to my ‘10 DCSB Sport in whatever Toyota called silver at that time (very similar, less some metallic flake basically).

    Here’s what I’m experiencing:
If I’m anywhere near a plant, tree, etc while I’m off road I’m going to end up with scratches all over the fenders AND the body paint, fully thru the clear coat. I’m talking super-minor, whispy green tips of small bushes type stuff. Stuff I brushed against a gazillion times in my Silver ‘10 Sport with zero consequence.

Here are the only 3 options I can come up with, and hoping TW members can set me straight…
    • Toyota paint jobs now suck, and venturing anywhere near a forest service road or similar (forget about trails/2-track) are now going to pinstripe the heck out of your Taco.
    • My dealers “protection package” is to blame…. At least they were honest about not being able to sell a truck without that package…. The underbody/frame treatment was def. worth it. The “ceramic coat” BS, quite possibly not. I’m not up on my wax vs ceramic…
    • Possibly both of the above are true? In any case, my ‘22 OR in silver cries any time I’m +/- 6” from shrubbery.
Something seems like major BS, but maybe it’s just my repeated dumb luck? Opinions appreciated.

    B

It's a truck, embrace the scratches.

I have noticed the paint on my truck seems very fragile, I swear a falling leaf would scratch it.

I don’t take my truck off road but in the past when I did go off road I had off road vehicles. As far as my 2023 CSM the paint is very soft the smallest rock flying up off the road will chip the paint. I can only imagine what would happen if I took it trail riding in the woods.

while the ceramic coating your dealer gave you is probably inferior to one from a detailer, a well done coating would never stop scratches from off roading.
