I can't say whether it's worth it or not. I didn't buy one so I have no actual experience with their claims process. My own personal preference if I do purchase an extended warranty (which is rare, this is only my second one on all the new vehicles I have purchased since I've been driving, and I'm 65) is to buy a factory backed warranty and not one from a 3rd party warranty company. SE Toyota Distributor dealers push the JM&A products as "factory" products when in reality they aren't. It's not that you can't buy the Toyota backed warranty from TFS, it's just that SETD dealers don't offer them. You can buy them but you have to buy them from an out of state dealership and you have to pay cash. You can't roll it into your financing. While I don't know if it's true or not because I didn't try, the guy who sold me my Toyota warranty said you can go to a Lexus dealership and buy one because Lexus isn't married to JM&A the way Toyota dealers are.

All this said, if you are within 30 days you can cancel your JM&A warranty and get a full refund, then purchase a Toyota factory backed warranty from one of the people who discount that are mentioned in this thread. I'd be happy to give you the info of where I bought from if you want to get a quote. Or you can stick with what you've got.

Your experience doesn't surprise me. My brand new 2018 JGC lasted 200 miles before it was in the shop for a month to have a cylinder head replaced. Had to start the lemon law process on that to get their attention and get FCA moving. About a month after getting it back from the head replacement, another CEL light for a large evap leak. They threw more parts at it and gave it back 3 days later, all fixed. I had turned down all the extended warranties when I bought it, but at least these things happened within the 3/36 warranty period. In contrast, the Ram 1500 I had before the JGC never gave me a moment's problem, but the Jeep soured me on anything FCA/Stellantis ever again.

The last time I paid for an extended warranty was 1988; yes, that car needed a few repairs which were covered, but it never even got close to paying for itself. Since then I've kept track of the cost of the extended warranties for the 15 or so new cars my wife and I have purchased and plopped the money I didn't spend on the warranty into a special savings account at my friendly neighborhood credit union; I then drew against that account when I had a repair expense. Here we are 34 years later (30 years since I purchased the next car), the account has over $20,000 in it, even after covering a new transmission for one vehicle (which was 9,000 miles past the point where the extended warranty would have covered the tranny), and numerous water pump and fuel pump repairs for my wife's previous car, a 2012 GTI. Speaking of the GTI, it is the only new car we've ever purchased which would have benefited from having purchased the warranty.

I told y'all the above to say this, over a lifetime of vehicle ownership buying an extended warranty may pay off on one or two cars, but for the rest you'll be losing money. Why not "self-insure" instead and keep the difference?

I have to agree. If you have the discipline and the financial ability to do that it's the better way to go. Auto manufacturers and 3rd party companies wouldn't sell them if they weren't profitable. I know myself and I don't have that kind of discipline, so for me to pay $136/yr up front to TFS in order to lay that risk off on them was worth it to me.

I just pulled out my paperwork and the service contract I got isn’t JMA. Apparently it is Fidelity Warranty Services. It is the platinum plan with a $0 deductible and it is for 10 years 150,000 miles. I paid $2,000 for it.

I will daily drive this truck and it’ll get about 20k miles a year, so the higher the mileage warranty is what sold me on it since I’d hit 150k in 7-9 years as long as I don’t get another else to drive.

Would it be wise to still cancel and get the shorter term Toyota warranty since it is actual Toyota and not a 3rd party?

An actual Toyota VSA warranty is always going to be way better than any 3rd party warranty (which are largely recognized as scams because the fine print absolves them much more often than them actually having to pay out on a claim). Without reading thru the terms of your particular contract, who knows how good or bad it truly is, but it is not going to be as good as Toyota’s, that’s pretty much a universal truth. Toyota offers as high as 10 year/125K VSA, which I would take over a longer mileage 3rd party without a 2nd thought. IIRC, the 10/125 Toyota one is about $1700 from the sources mentioned here. All that said, I normally never buy any warranties on anything. But for the prices of these VSAs from the dealerships like Wolverine, I don’t think it’s a bad idea. I may end up even buying one… but it would be for the computers/electronics. I’m not worried about Toyota’s mechanical reliability at all.

I haven't heard good things about Fidelity Warranty Services; you might want to check around for reviews, and if they look ugly, consider canceling.

Has anyone recently purchased a warranty through Jennifer? I did a while back and it was processed on the 6th of Oct. according to her system.
I have yet to receive any paperwork from Toyota. Does this seem like an extended time frame for them to send out the paperwork? I contacted her and she said they might be running behind due to the holiday. Just wanted to get others' opinions on the timeline.
    TIA.

I purchased one from Jennifer on 10/17. She said it would take about 4 weeks. Best I can recall it was about 4 weeks. I definitely received the paperwork before Thanksgiving.

    A few things..

    1. Extended warranties are not all created equal, do your research on the underwriter and reviews from the company

    2. MOST extended warranty companies require a tear down for major components, systems. Such as your trans and engine. They will not cover to have it put back together if they determine the issue is not covered under warranty. So, you’re stuck with all that labor in hoping they actually cover what they claim. AKA, they aren’t just going to replace your engine for a rod knock without inspection, confirmation and usually… records of maintenance.

    3. Most will not authorize the use of brand new engines, transmissions. While re-maned can get the job done, it can also lead to future problems with unforeseen issues from the re-man process

Knowing this can sometimes turn you off to the extended warranties. These are just things to keep in mind, but make no mistake, extended warranties can also save your butt, and are not all complete trash.

I declined the dealers offer, and my credit union offered me one for 1400$. I reviewed the coverage, and understand what is and is not covered. While we can do a great deal of work ourselves, there’s nothing better than NOT spending 1000$+ on unexpected repairs.
