Interesting, could you be more specific about the last part? "Forcing the engine out of direct injection and into flood injection...."

Check if plugs are tight. Clean TB. Check air filter and tubing connections. Try better fuel. Different brand or station. Higher octane may take afew tank fills. Several higher octane brands also have cleaning solutions sdded.

Reach out to developers on the OTT thread.
They most likely will ask you to datalog.
Get fusion obd2 phone app(free), buy inside the app toyota pids($16), buy on Amazon Veepeak mini BT obd2 ($13).
This setup is good enough to catch most of issues.

The guy was playing with the tune.
Not sure what is flood injection, but there are 3 injection modes: port, port+direct, direct.
Modes are engine load and rpm depended.
Direct only kicks in when the load reaches ~75% and rpms around 2000. also during the cleaning cycle at idle.
The most of your drive is in port +di or port
You can alter mode using Vftuner, but you need to know what you are doing.

My truck must be in the otto mode full time, cause it runs great all the time.

I can tell you that I've most certainly heard pinging, although admittedly it was while running a test tune. Weirdly, I'd sometimes get it while backing out of the throttle, almost at full lift.
Anyway, it's been a rare occurrence.

Yeah, not sure what the issue is. Some folks distinctly have trucks that run good, some folks distinctly have trucks that don't. Normally I would mark it up to personal difference but there are quite a few folks who have had multiple tacomas (or driven multiple) and noticed a difference.

Same goes for power level, some say theirs is fast, other say theirs is slow. I know the one I test drove actually drove great, I thought it was peppy and overall had good power (for what it was). When my actual truck arrived I was massively disappointed in the power.

I still have not been able to determine if the powerful ones are also the smooth ones, and the "weak" ones are also the ones that stutter and are not smooth.

Filled up my taco yesterday while another sr5 gen3 pulled in behind me at the pumps, and asked me how I like the truck, said it's been great the last 3 years. I asked him what year his was....said a 2022, claiming it's been a really good truck to, no problems yet. I asked if he's had any transmission issues, and he didn't even know what I was talking about, asking what should they be? I guess its mostly here on tw your hearing this crap.

Yeah, and there are others that find an argument with a stop sign.

Sorry that just isn't true. The ping on my 17' was so bad I to switch to 93. Even then it wasnt perfect. Didn't have any issues with ping on my 22 though.

I didn't hear about it, I experienced it. I drove two different trucks, they were different. I grew up tuning carburetors on performance engines and mine felt like a 2 stroke about to lose a spark plug, I would have noticed that when I test drove the first MT Tacoma in the 45 minutes I had it.

My experience echoed what others were saying, which is why I was looking for solutions. Because you don't experience it doesn't mean it does not exist.

BTW, 22's would have automatically received the transmission update designed to specifically address the issues others were experiencing. He wouldn't have known about it, his was updated before he got it so that it didn't have the issue.

Not saying it can't be an air leak, poor spark, crappy gas etc. Most seem to feel it at lower rims in a higher gear. Might be drive line related, wiggling exhaust system. Something like a skid plate not truly tight??

Nothing related with skid plate or wiggling parts, sounds come from engine

I'm not doubting you but a drive line sound can resonate. A scan gauge, ultra gauge or another parameter reader should see this even if no code is ever thrown
