Been searching but I cannot find why Hamilton had a lap time deleted (whatever the heck that actually means during a race) and others had five second penalties.
Does anyone here know the crime/punishment formula for track limits?

 

When a driver has a lap time deleted it means they went off the track.

No laps are deleted just the time, if he did the fastest lap on the lap when he went off then the time would be deleted.

 

But they edge off ALL the time. Why this race to focus and penalize?

 

I think they get 2 warnings then 3rd offence is a 5 second penalty

 

new race directors this year have taken the stance that the white lines on the outside of the circuit define the track , running all 4 wheels outside of them is deemed to be off track , unlike previous seasons when only certain corners were monitored for track limits

 

3rd offense is a black/white flag. 4th is time penalty.

 

It would be difficult to not peg the sarcasm meter if I were on the radio, "No Lewis. Just you."

There were 43 lap times deleted during the race, as well as four five-second penalties given to drivers for too many track limits offences. Good grief.

 

At the least the race director/stewards were doing what they said would happen and handing the penalties/warnings out fairly.

 

I real know little about the guy, but come on man, we need a USA driver. WTAH.

To me Perez running into George was an unfair ruling against George....but whatevs.

 

There has to be some rules, otherwise no one would drive the chicanes and just cut straight through the track boundaries.

Yeah, that one was a little harsh, especially for an opening lap incident. Seemed like a pretty fairly contested corner and there just wasn't enough room anymore.

 

They are trying to make the tracks safer with more runoff areas and the drivers are taking advantage of that to go faster. It’s pretty simple the white lines are the racetrack. Leave the track you get a penalty.
