Ferrari need to fire their strategists and just do whatever red bull does.

^^^^^ This. Ferrari did screw up with the flip-flopping about bringing Carlos in, but that's it. If he had pitted earlier he may have had a shot at 4th, but coming in for fresh tires had to happen. LeClerc went wider than he should have and got his rears on the paint while accelerating.

Nobody talking about Mercedes! They've made considerable improvements, clearly in the 3-4 mix now and not just best of the rest. The drivers aren't fighting the car tooth and nail anymore either. I didn't see any porpoising from their cars in the fast bits. I think that podless design may be coming good.

Didn't they change to the mediums instead of hards at the first stop? Everyone else went to hards.

Carlos started on the back row on hards. They could have put another set of hards on but then he would definitely have had to stop again, and he would not have had any advantage over the cars around him in the interim. The timing of the safety car really screwed up Sainz's strategy, which probably was a one stopper with yellows in the second stint.

Anyone else find the Paul Ricard circuit to be kind of hard to follow? To me there aren't any features or landmarks to set one corner off from the other. Monza, Spa, Austin, Hungary, Singapore all feel like I know where the car is when the director changes cameras. With Paul Ricard I had no idea where the car was until the announcers called it, it just looks boring to me. Not a complaint about the racing or anything, just the featureless track.

Carlos went to mediums on that first stop. He was flying. They changed again to mediums because they said he could not make it. What kills me is that Carlos seems to have a better idea strategy from the car (like he's not busy enough in there) than the guys on the wall.
When he could not get passed Sergio, he said we should pit ( he was losing time) and they said "understood" and then "stay out".
When he did pass, and was no longer stuck and losing time, they tell him to pit (in the middle of some intense racing).
Really strange............. from a fan's point of view.

When they told him to stay out they said they were working on a gap to traffic behind. At that point it was the right call.

I think that was after the crash....I think. He was trying to get the car moved on his own.....I think.

Except the gap was decreasing as he was being slowed by Perez. The sooner he was in and out, the better. He had already proved he could pass those mid-fielders easily....even Alonso.

Porsche didn't necessarily have a good outing with Footwork back in the early '90's.

    (disclosure... I have a Porsche)

    Cheers

I'm sure everyone has seen Vettel announced his retirement at the end of the season.

Yep. He alluded to it last weekend in the French GP pre race show after driving the 100 year old Aston. I don’t follow the team enough to know who might fill his spot?

If Seb doesn't miss a remaining race this season he will have 299 to his name....should come back for one more next year as a replacement driver to get the 300
