If Piastri gets screwed out of a seat Multi 21 Seb, Multi 21 isn't going pay his lost income. But he sure as hell will take his cut regardless of where he signs.

 

I think the Piastri / Alpine bridge is now only embers but somebody else will most definitely offer him a seat

 

I'm thinking Piastri must be terminally stupid. The correct and intuitive play is to just say something like "The Alpine announcement is quite a surprise since I have not yet signed a contract. I guess we all will have to wait and see what happens next."

 

I read the Alpine announcement as just them saying they intend promote Piastri since Alonso was leaving, putting the kid next in line for the seat by default.

Posting dumb statements on social media is a characteristically childish thing to do in response. The proper approach would have been to contact Alpine and ask what was going on in private.

I like the fact that he put them on blast. I think more teams need to accept that times are changing and in a digital world it's only going to get more complicated.

 

Put them on blast for what? Saying that their backup driver would be promoted to fill the vacant active racing spot - the exact reason he exists as a driver on the team?

Yeah I think this is what will happen. Once Piastri snubbed Alpine I figured he'd wait for McLaren. Alpine is obviously better than Williams and HAAS (only teams with vacancies left) unless Mercedes snuck in and snagged him and wants to pull a George Russell and wait for Hamilton to retire so he goes to Williams

Still thinking McLaren and then send Daniel back to Alpine

 

Unless Alpine already missed the option date and Piastri (management) has signed with McLaren but not yet announced it....publicly. Until Alonso announced he was moving, Piastri did not have a ride. He has already missed a season and certainly wanted to be in a car in 2023. If Alpine could not offer one, it would make sense for him to sign elsewhere. Who knows the details behind the scenes. A little early to call folks stupid.

Talk about a driver nobody cares about anymore. Wish it would have worked out for him at red bull, he just doesn’t have that edge.

 

With Alonso jumping ship at the first decent opportunity + Piastri all but refusing to to take the seat being offered, I kind of wonder what the Alpine internal team atmosphere must be like.

 

Alonso might just have been fed up with the way the team lets Ocon race him and not let him by at times.

 

from out here i also believe what Horner said is true (i think it was Horner). he basically said Alpine wants to be a top team with a midfield budget commitment. it has always been like that with Renault. if you look back into their culture when Alonso won his years, they identified themselves as this kind of underdog. but nowadays that ain't workin.

 

Well if the driver has no idea about it and nothing is signed then it's just a lie.
