I worked in Galveston for 2 years so am familiar with the salt air. Hard to keep a vehicle clean there.

You are decidedly not calm, in fact from your posts I would put you as close to "losing your shit".

There is a reason every detailer has a bottle of iron-x in their arsenal now and it's not because of advertising. The trucks are shipped on rail. Different paints can attract them more or less. Different waxes can too.

Again, you have an example case of ONE. This is VERY common on cars.

God I fear for the poor guy at the dealer who gets unloaded on because of some iron flecks that happen to everyone.

Stop by a detailer and have them wipe a spot with iron x and see what happens, please do this before you go unload on some poor sap

I think your truck will be fine, my truck was delivered to our island on a barge and mine was used as a wind/wave break for everyone else, it was covered top/sides/underneath/engine bay in salt, covered completely. Have just doesn’t the winter in Bend, OR where they do salt the roads and my truck is fine.

For rust to come through; the topcoat, paint and base layer would all need to be compromised and I would be very surprised if that was the case.

Fyi the photos above were taken on a 2016 iPhone a lot worse than yours. I’m sure if needed you could get a clearer or closer shot.

Seems as though quite a few people here have provided you with an answer. Get iron remover and see what happens. Willing to bet a 2022 truck isn’t rusting though it’s paint in a speckled pattern.

also all the mud flaps and running boards in the world won’t keep this kind of thing off your paint. I have almost as many years in as you and have seen it to one degree or another on every vehicle I have owned.

Not sure what answer you are looking for but I think the ones provided thus far have given a good starting point.
I would almost never do this but I think I can speak for 100% of TW members that NONE of us think that this should be happening to a truck less than a year old! Especially since it seems that you actually prepped your truck for winter. Anyone would be pissed and be saying WTF is going on?
It seems as you are looking for someone that has had this exact problem and that it's Toyotas fault and the dealership needs to take care of it immediately?
I'd say you should eliminate a few culprits, as in using an iron remover and clay bar. If you have never used a clay bar, you'd be amazed at how smooth these can make your paint and what those will get off your paint that no amount of washing/scrubbing/waxing/soap or degreaser will remove.
Maybe there have been some changes in the chemicals they use to de-ice roads up there in the north? Or maybe you drove through a pile of leaves or pine needles that had sap all over them and then through some construction site water that they used to clean up that was full of metal particles? Or some other unseen factor that is unseen/unknown?
There are all sorts of members on this forum with a vast amount of knowledge about these trucks. Some of them car makers, Toyota master mechanics, assembly line workers, hell probably even people that actually paint our trucks at the factory are on here if i had to bet. Yes there are a lot of members that don't know their head from a hole in the ground but most helpful replies come from people that are, well, trying to help. The no no and no answers and the do you even own a Tacoma answers are a little off putting/rude and will get you nowhere of you're asking for advice /help.
And by the way, I'm fairly certain that the chrome Toyota emblem is plastic that's painted chrome. Pretty much no newer vehicle these days have actual chrome on them, it's all fake plastic/paint shit. Do you think all the trim inside your truck is actual metal/chrome? That's what @JamesV1 was pointing out. Which is another elimination point, if the plastic Tacoma emblem has the same rust or pitting on it, well then it's most likely an outside factor and not the actual paint itself.
From the info/pics /history given it seems to me that all of said rust is located where you would get spray from your tires onto your rocker panels and not anything above that point. Using that logic, it's from something else that just so happens your f-150 never experienced. Hope you can get it fixed and resolved with minimal $ spent. Good luck OP:thumbsup:

This is what many people call "rail dust" It can come from many places(rail roads, snow plow blades, sand), but its just small metal bits that stick to the snow on the road and get kicked up when you drive in snow. The salt they use on roads makes it rust up super fast and etch into the paint.

This is why its super important to wash your truck often in the winter to keep these from sticking to your paint.

39 years in MN winters, I know all about this stuff.

But its his first 3rd gen tacoma. Our clear coat is softer than peanut butter. But my rav4 did this, my saturn sl2 did this, my geo prizm did this, many of my cars have had this. OP just got lucky or never noticed it on other cars.

    Yes, Delaware salts their roads.

The past 2 winters have not been as bad as the past...snow has not stayed on the ground very long.

That rav4 was sweet, like a go kart with a radio. Wish I kept it to be honest.

I live in northern bc too, my truck gets covered in iron specs every winter. I hit it with iron-x and clay bar like everyone else is recommending every spring. The fleet f-150s at work have exactly the same thing happen. It's not just a Tacoma thing.

Please don't take this personally but is there a possibility that you had salt deposits on your car that you were not aware of that only a clay bar would take off and then waxed it two times therefore sealing that salt underneath and now is rusting from underneath? Not trying to place blame on you, just trying to brainstorm some possible factors
    :notsure:
If it's FUBAR then I hope for your sake you get it re painted under warranty and it costs you nothing
