I liked it. Glad we don't have 6 of these a year, but I thought it was cool and different. Good to see a track where throttle input makes a difference and you can't overdo it. Especially combined with a track where no one has any baseline to go to.

I was not interested at all. I thought the whole thing was boring. I love short track races - without a doubt my favorite is Bristol, but this was uneventful.

    Reflecting on the Clash-
It's an exhibition event which should be used to test potential markets & methods as well as drum up new interest in the sport. That said- rolling out over-important "we have everything for everybody!" pre-race antics on top of the patriotic posturing was a bit much. The driver intros were awkward, the grand marshalls deal was all off-kilter with timing and audio glitches, and having each manufacturer, which has a lot at stake, advertising message wise, lose a competing car to mechanical failure (I know, this was the new car's first true test run in front of people), made the whole thing a bit underwhelming. However, if the event managed to gather new fans in such a saturated market, then perhaps it will pay off for NASCAR. That said, I won't be watching any potential future LA Coliseum events. There's a reason we have purpose-built facilities for major sporting events.

NASCAR tried to cash in on a number of things:
    • The popularity & new nostalgia of Dale Jr's Lost Speedways and the many podcasts and smaller, more grassroots followers
    • The now adults who saw CARS as kids
    • The OLD Old Timers who remember seeing auto races in big-city arenas (Atlanta, Chicago, New York, LA)
    • One of the hottest potential growth markets for their demographic target.
I'm glad Daytona is next. I look forward to seeing cars that are safer for the driver but are NOT mechanically indestructible, and how teams will nurse components & inventory like they used to do in the 90s.

Well stated @MadDaddy. I would support this if it were somewhere like Bowman Gray but all the antics are what really turned me off to it. Hell, have the teams build or borrow modified's and run those! These cars are not designed to be on a circuit like that. It was a little sad to hear all the drivers and people praise the event, seems extremely fake and very coached. It is what it is but I will not be watching this next year if they repeat. Looking forward to Daytona and how this gen car performs in a real race.

You are correct. It did seam very fake, as how much the drivers really like the event, as they kept calling it. I'd be all for some Bowman Gray. The whole LA thing was shit, not just the racing, but everything together.

As exhibitions go, they should move this event (as well as the All-Star Race) to various historic locations. I'd prefer older tracks that are no longer part of the current schedule. Sure, it'd cost a lot of $ for NASCAR but it would also regenerate interest in their history if they wish (though it seems they are running from it as fast as possible), possibly giving older fans a renewed sense of appreciation as well as nurture those circuits for other possibilities.

    Greenville Pickens
    North Wilkesboro
    Rockingham
    Lanier
    Middle Georgia
    Anderson
    Myrtle Beach
    Florence
    Volusia
    Hickory
    Caraway

All these tracks still exist. Some still host weekly series and have a loyal following with loads of stock car history. The big boys used to race at these tracks on off nights. it was a chance to see the superstars vs the locals. Kind of like the SRX. Speaking of the SRX, I think they've really forced NASCAR's hand to do some different things lately.

Myrtle Beach is gonna get torn down. They sold it to a development company, either a shopping center or housing development.

I would love to see something back at Rockingham. I spent many races sitting on the old concrete on the front stretch at The ROCK! Those were some good times.
