I was at pocono yesterday. Super fun and fast track. First time seeing a cup series race at pocono. As a Hamlin fan I was excited to see my driver win a race in person. Shitty to find out after all day cheering and talking shit to my friends he gets DQ’d lol.

Drama at Pocono and great memories!

Lol, how so? They just know they got caught and can’t win an appeal. I was not bashing on anyone. Just relaying the article. I am not throwing stones. I know HMS is doing the same shit.

I mean at least JGR is being transparent about it, even if it is after the fact. Consensus is that it didn't offer any advantage, but nonetheless, rules are rules.

only being transparent because they got caught. I’m a huge JGR fan but not buying the transparency theory

This goes for all Cup teams, not just JGR

I disagree. Most of the time teams do far less as far as transparency goes. NASCAR certainly wasn't saying what the issue was

Where are you getting this information? I mean I get it if you have that unfounded opinion but nothing I have seen indicates this at all. If anything EVERYTHING indicates the direct opposite. LOL, I am sure it was a massive advantage hence finishing 1-2 and not fighting the punishment.

JGR released that the infraction was they were found to have added multiple layers of wrap under the scheme thus altering the aerodynamic properties of the nose allowing for an advantage. In other words they fucked around and found out. Not exactly worthy of crying fake news.
JGR is not getting railroaded here. They tried something that obviously worked and got caught. This is an area where success and failure is measured in the thousandths of an inch. The 42 & 43 had the crew chiefs ejected for using an unapproved screen mesh over an air inlet because it provided an advantage.

<⅓mm in thickness so guessing it didn't get caught by the hawkeye prerace and maybe they hoped that if they did finish in top 5 or were one of the two random selected post race that officials wouldn't notice it since it was clear? If I understood the location correctly, I'm guessing it was to help prevent as much air from going into the wheel well?

I mean all I am saying is JGR didn’t yell, hey y’all go ahead and give this to Chase. We just remembered we fucked with the nose of these cars. No! They got caught. Of course they are playing nice now. There pants are down. I am not going to praise them for having morales and telling us where they hid the bodies. Shit.

The key to this equations is “multiple layers” and also I mean. You are trusting that the information being provided by the people who perpetrated the infraction is completely forthcoming.

Oh I'm not saying it's no big deal. I'm simply speculating what the performance gain would be from it. Lest we forget SHR's woes of last year when officials started looking/enforcing the rear wheel wells.

As for the math: yes, that's assuming the JGR thickness is accurate. *IF* that is the case 0.012" is 0.03mm. Quick search indicates the teams are given 0.15" tolerance w/ the hawkeye so yeah, JGR could have multiple layers of tape and still be within spec prerace.

Haha I'm not defending JGR. I'd bet $100 that if it'd not started a full on shit show in the garage with all the teams and nascar pulled the wraps on the 20 & 19 they'd find tape there too.

And to be clear, why I think it'd start a firestorm if nascar pulled the other two JGR wraps: that's pandora's box that if one car from a team is found in violation they (nascar) can then go over all the vehicles from that team. The whole "everyone knows everyone else is working margins" but it'll bite you too one day so let those that are directly caught pay the toll, not the while organization.

The fact that it was within tolerance.... I'm not arguing that the act itself was right. But clearly it passed pre-race inspection. Let also ignore that Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin are arguably the best active drivers at Pocono even if you take away this incident.

The article above goes into detail as to why pre-race was not a problem. NASCAR does not pull the wrap apart until post. That is why the cars ‘passed’ pre-race inspection

I'm aware that they don't pull the wrap before the race. However, they're not inspecting it simply by eye. It was within tolerance according to the OSS system, which is a computerized scan used before the race. The issue wasn't the advantage it did or didn't give. The issue was simply that they did it.

And our point is that if it did not give a clear advantage they would not have done it. The proof is in the superior performance of those two cars and these are the smartest people on the planet for this discipline. They didn’t do it for the fuck of it.
I admit that JGR is good at that track but HMS is no slouch winning 19 races there or something like that.
