A few additions to make me feel cool.
I don’t think the body has anything to do with the problem. Xfinity cars are still a frame with a solid rearend. The body bolts to the frame and it has a fair amount of space or void between the body and frame which acts as a crumple zone. The new cup car does not have that. The new car is a series of chunks, mostly the mid, front and rear that bolt together but has little void between the body and sections. Furthermore those sections are composite and do not fold and crumble. Picture it like this. Lay out two 2x4’s and then mount a body to that and smash is into a wall. It will crumple. Now cut a piece of 3/4 plywood out the shape of the bottom of the car and bolt it to the body and slam it into the wall. The plywood will have a lot less give. Also the way the solid rearends mount. They are only attached a a few points and can give and offset in an impact. Now the transaxle bolts to the sub section and then you have essentially and upper and lower control arm and a CV axle. All that mass is a lot more substantial with a lot more connection points to a much more substantial and larger sub section. So what you end up with is a car that does not give and crashes look like nothing because the car is many more times tougher than before. That damage we are used to seeing is now being transferred directly to the drivers compartment.

Thing is, they're making the body out to be the scapegoat. There are lots of things they can do (like address some of the things you mentioned) to fix this issue. This car was billed as "putting the stock back in stock car" but I think they missed that mark in a lot of ways and this is one of the ways we're seeing it.

Sounds like I'm glad I didn't watch. Excited for non-superspeedway racing and non-Roval racing. Although it sounds like Martinsville will be another snooze fest and I can't imagine Phoenix will be much better.

I've been very vocal that I don't like "plate" racing.

Doubtful but the drivers can do a lot to change things at that track too. I think the weather made is miserable for everyone last race. This one will be better.

I love plate racing. Dega and Daytona are my favorite races of the year. This race was boring but required a lot of skill, luck and help to get the job done. They are nothing compared to the races of my youth but at least this was not the front half of the field in the garage and some 20 something place car winning.

I hope so. The things I've heard from the recent tire test were not promising at all.
