Agreed, I love it up there but the roads are meh at best.

However I will say if you keep going north there are some epic camping spots to be found if you look hard enough

Notable peaks like Mt Shasta itself?

I wouldn’t recommend climbing Shasta without snow. With no snow the mountain is all volcanic scree. It’ll be one step forward, 1/2 step backwards for 7700 vertical feet.

The views are unbelievable though. You can see Lassen at about 8 seconds here. It’s 74 miles away.

I can remember standing on 7Up Peak in the Trinity Alps looking at Shasta and Lassen. Crazy how far you can see on a clear day. So beautiful.

Thinking of driving up to the Modoc Plateau later in the year, stopping at Lassen on the way. Does anyone know any good trails in Modoc NF, or know of a good source for such info?

I have a book with some trails in that area:
Guide To Northern California Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails

Don't know if you've seen these, they have a few more for states near us.
They have some nice notes and directions.

Yeah, it’s crazy how far you can see when you’re 10,000 feet higher than the surrounding land.

Ah found it! (I was looking for this video earlier) This is one of my favorite Sun rises.
It’s from above the Red Banks on top the Konwakiton Glacier and below Misery Hill around 5am.
I think we left Helen Lake around 2-3am.

I climbed Mt. Rainer in the early 90s... It was absolutely amazing... one of the best experiences of my life... I remember looking out and seeing Mt. Adams and looking across the Washington/Oregon boarders. The blue of the sky and down deep in the crevasses was something I will always remember.

Taking the Tundra up to Bend over President's Day weekend.
Any must do places to stop at on the way? Or in Bend?
Planning on hitting Crater Lake on the way home.

There’s a couple nice hot springs east of the Steens Mountains.

Surprisingly not bad. The warm weather has created spring skiing conditions. I went snowboarding at Heavenly on Saturday and the snow was similar. There are definitely icy patches in the shade though.

All parties involved are okay. Big ol’ F550 did me in.
No airbags deployed so it shouldn’t be totaled and I should be able to keep the clean title.
Little bit nervous about the bumper and light bar. Anybody have experience with AAA insurance and aftermarket parts?
