Mostly, but at the same time, there has always been homebodies. Hell, my parents never camped or did road trips (after my sister came along). It was a major victory to get the pup tent (not waterproof) setup up in the yard.

I had Sega Master System, NES, and then Sega Genesis. But I still loved hauling my bb gun around and camping. It wasn't until PC games got really good that I was a homebody for a while. Then I bought a truck and moved out of the city.

I have found that when I make the kids go out they bitch and complain at first and then start having fun. But throwing them into a week long trip is probably too much for these girls right now. Even if I say they can miss a week of school.

Oh yeah. We had Ataris and OG Nintendos and definitely put some miles on them, but all my close friends were happiest goofing around outside from dawn til dark and then some.

I'm sure it would have been the same with our fam, but the issue was never important enough.

AA batteries only lasted so long back then and you couldn't easily just use solar or a portable battery to recharge them like you can now.

As a kid I hated hiking and once I built my first computer vastly preferred gaming. Nowadays, it's the exact opposite, despite the fact that I have a top of the line gaming PC. I'd rather be out backpacking, offroading, or working on projects out in the garage.
I'm still thankful I was made to do some camping, as I do have good memories of those, but being brow beaten over the head to go hiking did not do the relationship with my parents any favors.

Yeah anytime something is forced it won't turn out well...pretty much all you can do is offer options and/or make compromises

Sounds like me when I was a kid. Would rather play counterstrike until 2am than do anything outside. Now I mountain bike and backcountry ski, planning on hitting the BDR soon, so there is hope for the young still. They may not like it now, but bet they'll look fondly on outside time when they are older.

Unfortunately life won't let me make this trip....have fun everyone, be safe, and take lots of pix. If any changes need to be made to this thread in regards to times/locations/etc let me know and I'll update.
