you want to stick a teenage boy in the back seat for and tow what for how long?
the back of DC are not that big, go sit in one for an hour at a dealer (if they have one on the lot)
the Tacoma is not the best vehicle for towing a travel trailer or large boat long distances

Thank you, this is great advice. While the waiting and building later is obviously the way to go, we also may not keep this truck long term. We probably are getting a TRD off road with the technology package (that seems to be all that is coming in right now). We will add a couple things from Toyota (black out package, rails, and possibly swap the rims for the black TRD pro rims) and worry about the rest later.

The way this is happening is my guy has access to west coast inventory for all car brands, and he can allocate them to certain dealerships before the get sent in. With the supply chain issues, there are pretty limited builds out there. Mostly because the more robust packages have more parts that need to come from overseas that are not available.

If my wife had her way, we'd build a 50K tacomas with heater leathers seats and every option available, because that is what she does. LOL. She has a knack for being able to pick out the most expensive thing anywhere.

No, not putting him in the back. This would be his vehicle to drive until college.

We have a master craft boat. We also have a full size SUV with 7700lb towing capacity we currently use, but we live near the lake and 6500(6400) from the Tacoma is plenty to go a couple miles. We have property, so we need a truck and selling the old SR5 would leave us with the need for truck still and I dont want to get a full size truck right now.

Get the truck. SR5 longbed 4x4 (you probably don’t need the features of the offroad. Locker etc). Get some TRD rims, some all terrain 265/75/16 tires. Then Bilstein 5100’s on every corner with a Dakar leaf pack or icon leaf pack in the rear and call it good.

they will not void the warranty. Just the items you replace will no longer be warrantied. And the dealer would have to prove that your lift caused another part to fail, so they wouldn’t be able to void a warranty claim on another part.

the trd lift kit is a Bilstein shock branded with a trd logo they overcharge for. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bilstein 5100 and the “trd” shock are the same thing with different branding.
