It’s still confusing to me how this “allocation” thing works. So when you put a deposit down and the dealer doesn’t have an estimated date, this means they have not received an allocation? So you have just an “order”, meaning theoretically they may never receive an allocation for your order?

So for those who have ordered the Pro, and don’t have an estimated date, does that mean you don’t have an allocation?

Sorry for newb question. Just wondering if it is a waste of time putting a deposit on a vehicle. A dealer could be telling you they have an allocation when they really don’t?

When you put a deposit down the dealership essentially sends Toyota what you want and they essentially get put in a line waiting for allocation for your truck.
Once the allocation is elated to your dealership they will give the dealership a build date. At this point the dealership can give you a better ETA.
It's not ideal but it is the way it is. You want a new truck, you'll have to put a deposit down and wait.

So if a dealer says they have an allocation, but don’t have a specific date, does that mean they are making it up? I’m hearing different things, some particular to the Pro, where some say they can’t even “order” a Pro.

I went in on Oct 25 and put a deposit on a Pro. Was told 5-6 months and accepted that. Dealer guy called once about a month later to say no news yet and they will keep trying to secure one as soon as they can. The manager told me that they would probably get 6-7 Pros at that dealer for the whole year so maybe 1 a month once they actually start to ship, so I didn't want to wait until they started arriving to get in line.

I am now seeing one dealer in town with a $20k markup/adjustment on their incoming Pro (list is around $80,000)... things are getting insane.

With Toyota in Canada the only choice you really have is trim and colour. Not like the domestics where there is 100 configurations where a special order would be necessary.

my dealer had a truck like I ordered back on November 13, but that person put his/her deposit down in august. So basically if you want one put your deposit down and wait your turn. My $500 deposit is refundable.

20k markup? You could build a trd off road premium up with the $33,000 difference between those 2 prices and have a vastly superior truck…

I didnt think Canadian dealers did this mark up BS. If it starts happening around here there will be a Boulder Gray Frontier sitting in my driveway. The Nissan dealer would love to have my Tacoma.

with 3.5% financing I was doing some math on a frontier pro 4x. They come out pretty close to the same price. I really like the frontier but like the thousands extra in my trade value every few years. I don’t think the local dealer will markup msrp, but you never know.

At least Heninger is up front about how they're going to hose you.

They had the truck I was looking for when I was buying. After a few emails I called to put down a deposit it magically had a $6000 OEM tonneau and $3000 of 3M on the front end. I forget what their admin fee was but it sure wasn't pennies.

marking up MSRP is not legal in Canada. You also can not force "mandatory" upgrades either. The fact they did the upgrades before there was a purchaser is the grey area.
But say you were to order a Pro and they got it in and then put the upgrades on without your permission, then you'd have a case against them.
Moral of the story, order a truck, be patient. Do not shop the lots right now.
