My dealer told me Toyota Canada charges the $990. I told them that's BS then I called Toyota Canada and let them know what dealer is telling people.

Toyota needs to make it clear on their web site the fees aren't necessary. It's just another way (in this case the business office in the dealership) way to nickel and dime customers.

this just makes it easier for dealers to charge more. Some don’t even charge a doc fee currently and will be tempted to pocket the $990 by claiming it’s for Toyota or others may add their own doc fee in addition to the $990.

once you show them you know your numbers they back off. For example you tell them dealer invoice price on the truck, that’s gets their head spinning

Much of it is establishing a relationship with the dealer. I would take my 2nd gen in for warranty work at a dealer near where I worked but not where I had bought from. One sales rep would come by and BS with me, turned out he had more than a passing interest in the work I was doing. I built a relationship with the parts, service and sales people at the dealership. A couple of years pass and we buy a car from them for my wife. Several years pass and we replace that car (no dealer fees), a few more weeks pass and my 2nd gen blows up and I need a replacement. Sales manager scrambles to horse trade with other dealers and finds me a truck (no dealer fees). Pick up a few accessories for the new truck, sales manager comes to the parts counter and works a discount for me.

Drop by a few months later to show off my modded truck to the salesman. He tells me they have been told by Toyota Canada what their quotas for the next year will be and he knows he'll be scrambling for a paycheck for the last few months of the year as everything will be gone by then.

Supply and demand. These past few years you can't be bending dealers over because they have excess inventory on their lots and a shipment on the way.

A word of caution to my Canadian friends re locking gas cap. I ordered from Amazon.ca a locking gas cap. Site said it was Stant oe. It arrived in a Motorad box. Tried it out and got a check engine light almost immediately. Sent it back. Am forgetting the idea of a locking cap at least for now.

Thanks for that, I was waiting for someone in Canada to tell me which one works before making a move.

Just got a call from my dealer. They have a MGM Pro auto on ground ready to go. It will probably be sold by tomorrow. I’m not interested. If anyone here is PM me and I’ll give you my salesman’s information

Can someone explain to me why a trd off road extended cab is $1,470 in the difference between auto and manual, and the trd sport premium in auto and manual is a $1,570 difference (with a 1’ longer bed I may add and no loss of MTS/Crawl either) but then a Trd Pro auto to manual is a $4,050 difference?

Someone else may chime in. But the sport premium auto vs manual difference is push button for the auto, longer bed, I believe different radio, I’m not sure what else. In the pro the auto has crawl control, different radio push button start and I’m not sure

That's very good news. Nice to see them making their way East.

I was told they have allot more rolling in but there's still delays on the premium models due to the chips.

Sherwood park in AB have 3 trucks and a $1500 discount on them. Ontario, dealerships are still asking over MSRP with additional accessories that are Mandatory when selling.

I think mid 2023, inventory will build up, just like RAM inventory and Toyota may offer incentives and these dealerships will stop being greedy

I went to the dealership and the Financial Services Manager said the $990 "it's a Toyota Canada fee". After she said this twice I said you're lying. At that point the conversation ended she went and got the Sale Manager. After going back and forth the Sales Manager said "Toyota Canada allows them to charge $990".

I'm buying a $110,000 F450 that took 15 months to get and the fees are $2,100 vs. fees on a $49,000 Tacoma that took 8 months are $2,555.

In my experience dealers do not like it when you call them out. They like to be greasy in secret.

yes, just like this fella. I admire his tenacity by calling bullshit on their coverage they charged for but wouldn't pay out until the media got involved.

I just hope people avoid dealers that practiced price gouging when inventories get back to normal.

No dealerships fee when I placed my order back in June, now with Toyota Canada new pricing, I am pretty certain they will add the $1221 fee plus whatever the increase from 2022 to 2023. Sucks. And if you’re financing that wld be upwards of $5000 in just under a year.
