You have a better chance of winning the Powerball grand prize 3 straight drawings than seeing a Factory Diesel Tacoma for sale next year...

Although I'd like to see this happen, I doubt it will. I've actually not heard the rumor you're referring to. But the current rumor is that Chevrolet/GMC will be discontinuing the 2.8L Duramax for the next generation Colorado/Canyon. Unknown if it is to be replaced with the 3.0L or eliminated altogether.

No. Will be a few years before anything new of substance and new engines. Still probably no diesel in next gen either. Will probably find out more from the new tundra for the new Tacoma updates

Right. All that has been confirmed by Toyota is that there will be a Tacoma Hybrid offering in their 4th gen lineup.

Diesels will never work here again because it’s now marketed as a premium option instead of base/Wt

To be completely pedantic, model year 2024 will have a fall 2023 release. You are welcome.

Edit: To be completely fair, I too am looking forward to the new Taco that runs on fairy dust. It will just be a year later.

Chevy is dropping the diesel from the Colorado for 2023. No new powertrains for the 2022 tacoma

More rumours from some random article

Late in 2019, Toyota filed U.S. Patent No. US20200208601A1 for an internal combustion engine. Last summer, it got published, and it’s currently pending. If it sees production, the language strongly suggests it will run on diesel.

According to industry heads, it displays high-compression technology, emphasizing one chief upside: “suppression of smoke and improvement of ignitability.” Anyone who’s owned a traditional diesel engine knows those are common issues associated with the fuel.

There’s speculation that Toyota’s driving at eliminating a particulate filter (DPF) and exhaust fluid (DEF), which would certainly make a splash.

The document also appears to suggest an alternative to glow plugs involving a heater and a system of ducts in the injection nozzle. I don’t know everything about diesel engines, but I do know that if you’ve never driven a diesel, you’ve never used glow plugs — simple as th

None of this has the slightest relation to the 2022 Tacoma Pro, or any other Tacoma.

I can't figure out why anyone would even want a diesel in a light truck these days with all the emissions BS that diesels have to have on them, the little that you may gain in fuel economy you will lose in higher initial cost, maintenance, and repair costs. It would be different if you could get a diesel with no emissions equipment that got 30-40 mpg but unfortunately those days are long gone.

I'd take that color though, definitely unique.
