Turbo with hybrid will have way greater towing numbers. So maybe a 3.0 single turbo and a 3.0 single turbo hybrid.

The new Frontier only makes 281 Ft Lbs of TQ and the current Tacoma is 265 so it shouldn't be too hard to beat.

I haven’t read all the posts so may have missed it but the Tacoma’s in Europe (Heliux) are mostly all diesel. I would prefer this than a turbo on a gas engine.

Thanks for the tip, I have been waiting for this. I must have missed it, but I didn't realize TRD Sport would be available in Lunar Rock? I thought this was only a Pro/OR/Trail option?

From my understanding, lunar rock is no longer a pro colour.

A Tacoma is not a Heliux….it is also not a Hilux.

Correct. Each year there is a pro exclusive color. (2021 was Lunar Rock) but its only pro exclusive for that one year. After that, its available on all the lower trims but NOT available on the pro anymore. 2022's Pro exclusive color appears to be the lime green thing thats been teased.

Dang, that makes for a tough decision between lunar rock and army green...

Not likely at all, that would probably be TRD Pro only if it was. Toyota has now started to discuss the 2024 Tacoma BTW, but from the little I do know, that engine isn't going to be shared, the way that the same version of 2GR is between Camry and Avalon. One would hope so, but nope.

I recently saw twin-turbocharged V6 TRD Pro TACOMA, 6MT. Guy did it himself and wow, I better look into myself. The Tundra engine isn't a GR engine, but this guy's Tacoma was. So well done.

This sounds pretty accurate, because the TNGA/Dynamic Force engines diagram, seems to have a gap and if the T24A-FTS is what follows the V35A-FTS downward, it's a wrap for new V6s at Toyota. Only 3.4L TT and I4T are confirmed, but something else is lurking. Only alternative is 3.3 V6 diesel right now is the F33A-FTV in LX 500d and Land Cruiser diesel. The idea of a 3.0L V6, I can't be certain on.

And that's always been the unfortunate logic. Toyota only offered a V8 in 4Runner, because the Nissan Pathfinder and Ford Explorer did too. Since the Frontier and Ranger didn't offer them 15 years ago, Toyota couldn't be bothered, even if Dodge put a 4.7L V8 in the Dakota (with a 6-speed manual too).

Toyota might not be offering that, but let's see. The 6-cylinder engines will either be carryover GR (like Land Cruiser 300) or replaced with V35A-FTS at the top end or T24A-FTS I4 at the low end. This old diagram shows me something I didn't catch before though, a gap after the Tundra engine might not be the new 2.4L, if strictly in order of displacement and not kW output.
    01_06_en.jpg
So there are still some mystery engines, in the hierarchy, but it's confusing to follow.

    Who isn't to say that, going counterclockwise V35A-FTS 3.4L TTV6 -> Mystery 3.0L 6 Cylinder or T24A 2.4L I4 Turbo ? -> A25A 2.5L NA I4 -> 1.6L 3-cylinder turbo or T24A-FTS I4T? -> M20A NA I4 -> G16E 1.3L I4 Turbo or M15A 1.5L NA I4? -> Mystery I4L Engine or 1.6L Turbo?

Does it go by displacement or total power output?

Toyota has 9 all-new, different petrol engine families they have developed for TNGA. 6 of them have already debuted, while 3 have not. One of those remaining 3 is the twin-turbo V8 engine. So what are the remaining two is the question? Does one of those new powertrains have a connection to the 2024 Tacoma and/or Lexus GX 550? This excludes hybrids.

Toyota so far have out of 9 new engines planned:
    • Twin Turbo V8 (not yet announced)
    • Twin Turbo 3.5L V6 (V35A)
    • Blank space
    • Turbo 2.4L I4 (T24A)
    • NA 2.5L I4 (A25A)
    • Turbo 1.6L I3 (G16E)
    • NA 2.0L I4 (M20A)
    • NA 1.5L I4 (M15A)
    • Blank space

What are the remaining 2 engines is the question? Another V6? NA or Turbo? Or more powerful I4 Turbo, at 2.8L for HD applications in SUVs/trucks?

The Hilux I learned, is totally distinct from the Tacoma. The Tacoma is very upscale by comparison, as the Tacoma rides on the same basis as the Land Cruiser Prado, FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, and Lexus GX 460. The Hilux is on a much more downmarket, yet very heavy duty "platform" for the developing world called "IMV".

That will change by 2024, where it will be powered 4-cylinder diesels and I am not certain they will make it over here.

It would be nice, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

Of course LOL. It's headquarters, gotta have those junior execs get access to their toys first.

The idea I believe came from Toyoda heritage, being originally a spindle loom company or something. The head guy himself mandates it, so in a corporate monarchy no one else has say on ditching that.

Looks like there are a few new accessories you can select for 2022 add ons to, the best being rock sliders:

One other interesting thing we could see happen in a new Tacoma would be sharing a powertrain with the US focused "LandCruiser" that media like TFL have hinted at.

For what it's worth... I put down a deposit on a green TRD OR two days ago at the dealership in Sioux Falls, SD and it happens to be the first '22 they're getting. Build date scheduled for 10/4 and delivery date October twenty-something.

This option was available for the 21 as well. At least for GST area. Accessories are all different for zip codes. Some have crazy amount of options and others are slim. It may be new to your area.

Thanks for this info. I just built my 22 Pro to have my dealer order.

Anyone know if the hood graphic is standard? I'm assuming it is because I didn't see the option to add it.

If you go from Build&Price on 2022 Pro to "Compare Models"....it shows "Hood Scoop With Unique Graphic" as standard on 22 Pro.

I have to be in zip code 75001 to even see the Pro right now, and can't use the normal "Compare" option to even select a Pro.
