So you mean you walked in with a stack of recalls and TSB’s that didn’t apply to your vehicle and proceeded to tell them exactly what was wrong with your truck?

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Same shit happed to me at my buddies Landcruiser shop. Got the green horn doing the work, and the stoner kid left a truck threaded funnel in my oil filler…I found it about 2 months later.
Regardless to say I drive back to my buddies shop on the weekend, to have the greenhorn fix the bs he made.
Well guess what, right in front of us the kid removed the oil, added new oil and dropped the truck.
We both looked at each other and said, what about the filter…he didn’t even act like he made a fucking mistake. I looked at my friend and said Jesus fucking christ, what the hell is going on here.

Lesson to all, check your shit even if it’s your buddies shop you wheel with, cause their ain’t no telling what the fuck is going on unless you do it yourself.

    It could be worse.
Like leaving the oil cap on the intake of a 2017 Camaro and shutting the hood.
Hood dents……The thing is, the dealership knew what happened and never said a word. They didn’t even wipe the oil ring off the hood. It was clear what happened. I understand mistakes happen, but not admitting to them is what gets me.

And no, it wasn’t my car. It’s my brothers. It cost the dealership $1,100 to fix’s it.

I actually forgot oil cap myself once in the past. By noticed in 1st drive as soon as engine warmed up , smell and steam. Was years ago, not Tocoma, less plastic covers and stuff but surprised it was not same on your truck?

I was in the same boat, just finished running some trails noticed it was gone when I went to air up. Taped it off went bak down had the oil changed new filter put in and made sure I had the issue noted on the work order. If anything goes south in the future I now have a paper trail stating their mistake. Damn power train warranty I miss doing maintenance myself.

The warranty doesn't prevent you from doing maintenance yourself. In my opinion doing maintenance yourself prevents you from needing to use the warranty. :D

I cannot seem to figure out where the idea came from that people think only the dealer is allowed to maintain a vehicle to keep the warranty. Not once in the past 25 years of driving has any warranty I've had on any vehicle, car, truck, motorcycles, have I been asked for the maintenance history. I can always provide receipts for oil filters and oil, or other things like gear oil and brake pads that are recorded in the system at my local auto parts store or online.

You can maintain your own vehicle, and not lose out on the warranty. Either way, I always check the area a shop has just worked on, because all mechanics are human, and mistakes will be made. I also check my oil and other fluids regularly, maybe it's my time in the military, checking them every morning when I check out a truck, or maybe just a life of working on my own vehicles, but these days, very few people grew up with mechanics for parents, or parents who did these things themselves.

Sorta this is a dealer warranty not the factory.
It's a lifetime unlimited km warranty. Stipulation is you follow the maintenance intervals at that dealer. Everytime I mod the thing I pop in there and ask if I have voided it yet. So far all is still good

Is that what's stated in the Warranty paperwork in writing? It's very common to be told one thing verbally, and then the paperwork says something different.

There's a saying- " nobody will take care of your stuff as well as you do" whether it's your tools, vehicles or other property only you will put enough care into its maintenance. Try and get a motorcycle shop to work on vintage bike carbs- good luck- even if you could, it is way cheaper and effective to learn and do it yourself. My old man was an auto mechanic who taught his kids to be self sufficient in maintaining our vehicles. It certainly wasn't lost on me. The lube rack at most dealerships employ the most junior of people who couldn't care less about your vehicle as they would much rather be doing something(anything) else! Do yourself a favor and check their work. It only takes a few minutes to check and prevents all the disappointment with going back to have them deal with their screw up. Trust but verify is all I'm saying.

It's in writing and very clean cut, it's offered on certified pre owned that are out of factory warranty at the dealership I bought from. It's an odd ball situation, when your talking about factory warranty yes you can Maintain your own vehicle but without sufficient records you can still be denied a warranty claim.

You are very correct good sir! I really do believe that this is the result of making everything easy to acquire, and children growing up to be adults without Fathers in the home. Back in the day, you were forced to learn to work on your own vehicles out of necessity, where today we have all information available to us on the internet, yet we are unable to figure out how to do things ourselves. It's a 1st world problem, that will not be going away anytime soon.
