2022 Tacoma SR5

I bought a new Tacoma SR5 on 25 Dec 2021 had 3 miles on it. With 52 miles on the speedometer the differential started making howling noises at 35-40 MPH. I finally had the dealer appointment today. They told me the differential need to be replace and they are keeping the vehicle because is unsafe to drive. The dealer said a week to get the new differential. Iam so Piss. Had 5 Tundras in the pass NEVER had any Issue. Does anybody had the same issue? O, I forgot to mention the engine is making a clicking sound like a valve, dealer mechanic said is normal. At lease they gave a Tacoma TRD as a loaner.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Hopefully some other 3rd gen owners can chime in. I think this diff issue has happened on a few other member's trucks.

 

They got it fix in one day, they FedEx over night the differential, runs perfect. They found metal shavings when they drain the oil. Even the clicking sound out of the engine is gone. drove it 24 miles to make sure, so far so good. I want to given credit to Toyota of Killeen, Excellent Reputation, I been buying toyotas for 26 years at this Dealer.

 

My engine has a slight clicking sound. Someone on one of these threads explained what it is but I can't remember.

 

The gas direct injection can sound like a valve tap (ticking sound). Especially in our SR5's with no sound proofing under the hood.
