Yes, he paid for a complete truck. Shock mfg effed up and shipped a defective shock and can't supply Toyota with a replacement at the moment. Shit happens, Toyota will rectify, may take a few days/couple of weeks. It's not the end of the world. Reading the rest of the thread, it appears the dealer is working to try to resolve. Good for them. I never said give up and allow failure to pass.

In the mean time, the vehicle is driveable. Depending on how bad the leak is, a leaking shock could go weeks to months before the shocks no longer absorb shocks. I would guess there is a pint or more of oil in that shock. Suitable and driveable are two different situations.

I don't think a leaky shock is a big deal.

It's kind of dumb that there are parts shortages or shortages of anything. Can't even practice consumerism any longer.

Okay so here's the latest on my "shocking" problem. Local Toyota dealership's service manager contacted regional staff who indicated they would not support warranty replacement of non-Toyota part. Any shock(s) and installation labor would be paid out of my pocket. This was a question in my original post.

Best estimate for part availability is now December 2022.

Alternative product information provided was great and it seems the Bilstein shocks are the popular choice. Thanks again to the membership for the feedback.

    Toyota satisfaction not so much...
