Within a few months, hoping to be a '22 Tacoma TRD Sport owner. :yay:

Would someone with 17" rims and tires on their truck (I believe standard on the Sport model) measure the height from the ground to the doorsill or cabin floor? I'm trying to get s rough approximation so i could compare to that of another vehicle, and if i need to install running boards. Thanks!

They didn't have one at the dealership that you could measure?

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Wheels are part of the equation, tires are the other.

I gained 1" of ground clearance with a tire change on OE wheels an no other mods.

Point is, if someone gives you a measurement it needs to include the tire size.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
17" rims + low profile tires vs 16" rims with a higher profile tire likely results in very close to the same tire outside diameter.

I should have mentioned the tire size. I was thinking about the TRD Sport standard offering, which I believe is 17" rim with P265/65R17 tire, but I could be wrong about that.

    FYI
    265/70R16 - OD of the tire = 30.6"
    265/65R17 - OD of the tire = 30.6"
You might explore The significant difference is not in tire OD - it's in the profile and sidewall height.
    265/70R16 - sidewall height = 7.3"
    265/65R17 - sidewall height = 6.8"
Shorter sidewall generally result in a bit stiffer ride as there's less sidewall to flex to absorb bumps in pavement.

All stock Tacomas have tires of roughly same diameter (30.5-30.6”), so all will be the same height, except those with a lift, like the Pro.
SR, SR5, Sport, Off-Road, and Limited will all be the same.

OK, so, on a stock Tacoma that is not lifted, what is the door sill height?

Mike, Thanks! Congratulations to you too. I'm uncertain if running boards / steps will be necessary for me. :burnrubber: I know what I can get into currently without steps and just wanted to compare. Good thing I don't have to provide an age in my profile. :threadjacked: Yes, if someone with a Tacoma that isn't lifted could go out to their truck with a ruler and measure from the ground up to the top or uppermost part of the door sill on the driver's side, I would be grateful.

Mine's coming with factory port installed predator steps that I will modify one for the big hound so he doesn't put his leg through it. This is a really simple question though.

I have a Sport with the stock 265/65R17 tires, 4Runner TRD Pro 17" wheels, and a stock suspension. Measuring from the ground to the interior door sill (where you would have to step up into to get in) is about 20 inches. I put predator bars on my truck because my 5'4" wife couldn't get in without them. I'm 5'10" and don't use them, and I'm an old fart :).

    Hope this helps.

It is exactly what I needed thanks! I noticed in cabin interior pics that the passenger side has a grab handle, but the driver's doesn't, probably because of the airbag on the pillar. Maybe I can use the steering wheel as a grab handle. Ha ha ha. If only I was buying this truck when I was a 30something. :sadviolin:

You are correct, it does not. One of the few negatives I've found with the truck. I hold the steering wheel when I get it but don't really tug too hard on it. It works for me :)
