I had a 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport several years ago and loved the truck, but hated how it would shift down constantly and seemed to search for gears. I traded my truck in for a 2017 GMC Sierra. I have had the truck for 6 years and am starting to have issues with it. I am looking at a 2022 Tacoma. I am going to look at the truck on Saturday. Have they fixed the issues on the truck that I mentioned earlier, or are they still the same?
    Any information would be helpful.

No fixed issues. Yea there is a tsb that made it better but the lack of low end torque combined with a lazy wide spaced 6 speed auto won’t ever be fixed

I have no issues with my 22 sr5. It may be my driving habits that make this a non-issue. I also have no hills so there is no down and up shifting.

this, the overall design is the same- heavy, un aerodynamic, mid to high range torque all are unchanged.

I didn't give the previous truck time to get adjusted to it, Do you get used to it or am I just used to a V8 truck? I drive around 30 miles a day from work and back. Don't put many miles on one.

I'm at 10k on my 23. It's deff way better than it was when it was new. It doesn't bother me.

it's not going to adjust that much. A tune helps, but the overall characteristics are just that, unless you add items like FI.

Yeah for me it becomes annoying when you are in the hills/mountains. On flat roads I don't really notice it. OP - you could splurge for a brand new 2024 Tacoma. I also find the ETC mode works wonders for this issue in the hills. Probably doing some of what the tunes do to hold the shift a little longer. Sorry to hear of issues on your not-that-old GMC

looks good, I wouldn't buy unless you can get an overnight test drive and verify it shifts the way you want,,, which I doubt

Not sure why a tune is "better" than PC and SSP. SSP is $175, PC is $285 (now). Have you tried both of these together and are basing your comment on that? I will admit I have not driven a vehicle with a tune and not knocking them but PC and SSP makes the drivability so much better its unbelievable - not sure how it could be better. They are plug and play, can be removed when you sell (and recoup some $$) or need an inspection sticker. I didn't want the hassle of finding a local (kinda) tune to me, scheduling, etc. Free shipped to my house, I get to install and can remove it myself. The better choice for me but I know tunes are extremely popular.

My 22 does the shift thing a bit, S4 & S5 and mid grade/premium pretty much minimizes it for me.
Have to give it more throttle for sure due to the power band and gearing. I like the truck a lot, but I have had better trucks for highway driving in hilly terrain. A naturally aspirated small cube motor in a 4000 lbs brick will want to do those things when strapped to a 6 speed auto. If this had an 8 or 10 speed, it would be a completely different animal. I just step on the gas and let it do it's thing.

I use S mode in the hills and sometimes when driving in traffic. The tranny is frustrating but I have learned to deal with it stock...

Test drive it and make your own decision. I personally would be more concerned about the 9.25 - 11.49% interest rate unless you can get better through a bank or put a good down payment on it.

Hate to be “this guy” but just get one with a manual transmission or skip the Tacoma entirely.
