I prefer a used (2022/23), however my wife wants me to get 2024. The place where we 'missed' the tacoma yesterday did offer us a very nice deal on a new TRD OR, but I was still hurting from the missed one that I didn't really give the new one much thought.

@2wdSR52022 - sadly, this is true. A good shape 2022/2023 is going to cost plenty and rival what they were new (from dealership)

    One quick correction:
If you are shopping at CarMax, you will pay "sticker price" for a used car. It is part of their business model, it is what it is and it actually takes pressure off buyers.

    One other comment:
If you can write a check for a vehicle, in full, as I am inferring here by way of overall context, then you can afford the incremental price of new. Which isn't much here. And you get the complete and entire warranty with 0 miles (proverbially) on the odometer. IMHO.

@BabyBilly - Pros seen to be hard to come by (used). I rarely see them for sale.

@BigCarbonFootprint - we aren't shopping exclusively at CarMax, we have just have had good luck there. Moreover, I like their return policy as we will certainly take the truck for a pre-purchase inspection and we would like to not be pressured to get it done right away.

As for new -- we are still discussing. Although the cost isn't really an issue (and agree about the pricing difference not being monumental), I am just not convinced a 2024 is the right truck. Personally I don't see a lot that would make we want to go that route.

If the original truck I posted about would have been more reasonably priced, it would be in our driveway. I liked it that much

I think you would be well-served to have any pre purchase inspection performed at CarMax. From what I've seen, and I've been in the market recently for a 4 dr sedan, they have nothing but whistle clean vehicles on their lot.

@BigCarbonFootprint - Their vehicles are very clean. However, I was back looking at the Tacoma they had (the one in the initial post) and sat in a Sport that was parked next to it. The previous owner had to be a smoker because there was definitely a cigarette smell in the truck NOTE: I have zero issues with smokers - I just prefer my auto not to smell of it.

As for the PPI - we would take that to the mechanic we use for all our Maintenace/repair and may even take it to an additional mechanic simply because CarMax's, in particular affords you that time.

My very take on the 2024. Yes, there is lots of talk about the build quality, it being turbo, etc., - that we all have ready dozens of times. But, I believe the 2024 has a lot of good things going for it including the ride comfort (which for us is important). However, there are a couple aesthetic things I don't like as much. One, the side view of the truck. Front looks good, back looks good, staring down the side looks good, but the straight on side view does not look particularly good in my opinion. Maybe it's the wheel wells..not sure. And I agree with another comment I read on this forum...the interior is a bit 'over' styled. Of course, this is highly subjective.

    Thanks again all.

    I just paid $34K for a 2022 with 10K miles, in TX.
Mine is a SR5 and does have the bling yours does, so that for sure will factor in the price.
