    2022 Tacoma SR5 - just shy of 6,OOO miles

This has happened 4 times now and is able to be repeated.

Yes, I've done a search and read previous threads that sound somewhat like my scenario. They were all on older trucks

I pull in for gas, leave the truck running, pump the gas, and then an extra bit to 'really fill up', not so much that it completely fills to the filler next, but I know there is some in the filler neck so I can go a bit further until I have to stop again. I've always done this with any car I drive and I'm going on long-distance drives, and never had an issue.

When I pull away from the pump, I get about 40-50 ft, the truck then shows a transmission overheat, low oil psi, etc and shuts off.. it will crank, but not restart without feathering the throttle.

If I can get up on the highway (I filled up at a rest area) the truck will run fine. If I'm in town, it's grumpy until I can get moving a burn off some fuel..

A scan shows no codes -

I just had two colleagues try it with the exact same trucks, and they can not duplicate the issue... So, I'm turning to the knowledge of this group for some assistance

    Thanks in advance..

Why are you leaving the engine running?

Your problem is likely that you’re overfilling the tank and creating a vacuum when the fuel is drawn out but the air vent cannot equalize pressure.

I would try not filling it to the brim with the engine running.

The neck barely holds any fuel. Your prob creating some sort of vent issue and starving the motor of fuel.

FYI: when you keep trying to fill after the pump keeps trying to stop, the pump is actually sucking gas back into the pump so your just wasting money.

Sounds like you should stop topping off your truck. Never EVER top off a modern vehicle. It has a vapor emissions system for starters, plus other components that could get messed up if you overfill the tank.

If you have flooded your charcoal evap canister (likely), that is going to be a pricey fix. Always stop on the first 'click' from the pump.

Seems you answered your own question runs better with less gas. Put less gas see if that works.

What @bonifacio_629 and @Arries289 said. The evap canister is an expensive fix. Topping off is your problem.

You sir are 100% correct. When the gas nozzle shuts off, do not put any more fuel in. Doing so will fill the evap canister up with raw fuel, causing THE EVAP vent valve to not work correctly. This can also cause the engine to flood with fuel, this needs to vent. Evap canisters are big bucks....

OP, it sounds like your colleagues know how to properly gas up their Tacoma's and/or have read their owner's manuals. Gas up properly and turn your truck off while doing so.

It really brightens my day when people attempt to do something only to find out that it doesn't work, yet they continue doing the same exact thing hoping that it will eventually work. A big thank you to those people.

i hope you're pulling our legs. why would you leave the engine running? and modern vehicles are notorious for issues when you fill em up past the click. i mean, come on...

just shut the engine off and fill up gas like a normal person and all your issues will stop.

Not supposed to fill up while engine is running. OP does it anyways. Not supposed to put more gas in when the pump stops. OP does it anyways. OP has problems yet continues to do it and wonders why he has problems.

This. NEVER OVERFILL A MODERN VEHICLE. Just because you always did it does not make it right.
You make at least the 50th person here that has complained. Everyone who did had the same issue. Your buddies cannot duplicate the condition because it takes multiple times before you saturate the canister.

You know how Oregon doesn't allow anyone to fill up their own tank? An attendant has to do it for you? I've always wondered, how could people mess up something as easy as filling up their own gas tank?

There are several of us with identical trucks, we all do the same thing, we've all done it for years -- it was the transmission overheat that was the odd piece of this puzzle. Thanks for all the comments :)

When the truck is about to stall the voltage drops from the alternator and all sorts of lights will come on. Modern vehicle computers freak out when the voltage drops. Its normal.

Do you also smoke while fueling up a running vehicle?

Where are you filling up at? I want to put in a reminder in Google Earth so I can catch the fireball on satellite view and I need the lat/long.
