Newbie here! Just bought a brand new Tacoma Access cab.... Have exactly 75 miles on it. So how long does it take for the computer to learn your driving habits????

Until you regear to 5.29s and get a tune.

But it's a brand new vehicle is the factory going to say anything (warranty) due to the fact that I retuned it and regeared???

I would suggest that you try the KD Max Pro + XT tune before changing gears. It might be less problematic if you have any warranty issues. My tune fixed my throttle lag issues and improved the shifting tremendously. The smoother shifting has to be easier on the transmission. You can find a tuner at kdmaxtuning.com. Or @TWTaco can help.

Ive only had mine for a week and driven like 250 miles and it already seems like its learning how I drive.
BUT....that could be ME re-learning how to drive an auto, as Ive driven only manual for last 8 years.
Either way, it seems to get better.

I had two manual transmissions model year 2016 and they were great.
Jumped to a 2020 and go the automatic. At first it did seem like some of the complaints were accurate. I just drove it more and got used to the shift points and the truck seems to "learn" some of the driving habits.
I think some people expect the TRUCK to perform like a sports car.
    It does not.

My Taco is 1 1/2 year old and never had any issues with the shifting. Like some mentioned it takes a while for the truck to learn your driving habits. If you drive like a maniac then drive normal this will confuse the computer. No need for a tune like some mention to me it is a waste of money. Just saying, drive and enjoy your new toy.

Imo, it varies. My 2020 was a totally different truck after 1500 miles. My buddies 2019 trd when he had the truck it never seemed to straighten out. Maybe due to a lift and 33'' tires screwing up the learning process, idk....but he had almost 20k miles, and it still hunted like crazy, and ran like crap. I would think the new access cabs to be really good by now, but it still seems to be a crap shoot among owners.

These transmission's at least mine preformed wonky for the first 1200 miles or so, but by 1500 it shifted like any other toyoya automatic owned. I came from a gen1 tundra, and it seemed no different, except the taco has more od.

I had a 2019 Sport with about 10000 miles and now have a 2022 SR5 with 5100 miles. Transmission learning does not fix throttle lag, shifting at the wrong speed, or downshifting repeatedly when it should not be necessary. ECT will hold gears longer but it does not fix the frequent and hard downshifts. Tunes are not very expensive. Throttle controllers cost almost as much. If you are willing to accept the problems with the 3rd gen trucks, that is fine. But a tune is an easy fix to allow the truck to drive as it should from Toyota. It has increased my gas mileage as well. If you don't like it, you can switch back to stock, easily. I can see how people would just get used to the transmission problems, but I never did, and was never going to be happy with my truck. I'm very glad that I found this forum and my tuner close to home.

I have found that using the skinny pedal solves this issue quite cleanly, no tune or gears needed.

Your computer is learning all the time. Soon it will become self aware.

My 2018 Tacoma never improved it's shifting after 16k miles and 2 years. Sold it for more than I paid for it which was nice. Out of the dozen Toyota/Lexus vehicles I've owned, the 3rd gen Tacoma shifted the worst by a mile.

    About 1000 miles.
I have no issue with mine and wonder what the fuss is about.
    Talk about first-world problems whew....

This is a truck pushing 5000 pounds of weight around.
It's not a performance car ie: Porsche or BMW -
    It's a truck.

Its perfectly acceptable to like your truck just as it is. I suffered the same issues and more as the OP and found a fix. I was so impressed with the fix that I became part of the folks in the world that are not only providing that fix to others but also helping refine and test just how much better that initial fix can be than it has ever been before. I am glad you like your truck just as it is....for those that don't we can and most certainly do offer proven improvements that makes it work better for them.
