Just wanted to make this thread to discuss the new pro. If you have a pro will you switch? Or will you add the upper control arms. What are your thoughts? Having owned a pro myself it is nice to see new tires that are more offroad like and more lift is appreciated.

well, if situation stays the same this fall, every Tacoma sells at MSRP, then it makes sense to buy TRD Pro then considering you wouldn't be able to get discount any other years anyway

I have a 2017 Pro. I like mine more. Mine is better. I won’t be making the switch.

Is there engineering evidence that the UCA adds value?

Or is it just another TRD trinket?

I am sure they added it due to the additional lift(1.5 inchs). The fox shocks are not trinkets so I don't believe these will be either

In one of the videos I watched it was said they were redesigned/designed to improve suspension movement. So from the sounds of it it is an actual upgrade, not just a vagazzle.

the press release says the UCAs are "forged aluminum", so maybe they are billet UCAs that cost $1.5k a pair retail?

That's marketing evidence, not engineering evidence.

And nothing TRD on street vehicles was developed in their racing program. It's just marketing hype.

What would be nice to see is the additional strength tests or alignment adjustbility. Things that move folks to aftermarket bits today.

I hope you're right that they actually add engineering value.

I have a 2G Pro suspension on my truck, nothing particularly exciting, but I’m taller than a current Pro. My caster values are not awesome and the truck does wander sometimes on the highway. Given that the new Pro is taller than the current Pro (likely closer to my height) I have to believe the real reason for the UCAs is to get the caster back into a proper spec so the average test driver doesn’t say “this thing is awful on the highway” (not that they need to, the trucks sell themselves).

They likely needed something to get the caster in spec as well as provide at least close to OEM level service life. Whether these are magical forged UCAs, who knows, but this is a factory fit part that should have none of the issues you may have with an aftermarket part (right, wrong or indifferent). For someone who is pushing their truck to the limits, this isn’t a part for them, but for the average person who lifts their truck and wants to raise the caster up and maybe get some bling out of the deal, if they’re not $Texas and VIN locked, they’re appealing. I know I’d consider them if they meet the abilities above.

Or they still have the same limitations as the stock parts and I’m making things up, I dunno.

If they made it in DCLB I would sell my sport ACLB and make the switch for electric lime.
