2023 8" Display issues

My Home screen will randomly switch to a white screen then switch to a full map screen with a black bar down the center of it. When in these states none of the controls function. They stay in this condition or flip back and forth between the full map and the white screen until the screen blacks out and then reboots. Toyota says it's because my contacts are using too much memory. Has anyone had this problem and a similar or different fix?

 

Sounds like a typical bs dealer statement to me but I’m not a tech guy. Op can you delete your phone and load a friends with less contacts to test this?

 

You need fewer friends...

 

I would do a factory reset on the head unit. With no phone connected yet if the head unit is still acting funny take it back to the dealer.

They already replaced the head unit once. I'm running now with no contacts loaded to see what happens. However, I read in the owner's manual that it is supposed to hold 5000 contacts and each contact could have 4 phone numbers. I currently have 212 contacts in my phone and would like to know if any 2023 tacoma owners have that many or more without any issues.

 

Why not then show the owners' manual to the dealer and say toyota says you're wrong, fix it.

 

My Dealer's Service Manager was on the phone with Toyota's Tech Support and it was that person that said it was caused by insufficient memory in the head unit. I'm waiting a while to see it the problem occurs with no contacts loaded. I will then ask my dealer to get Toyota to confirm the 5000 contacts number.

 

Does anyone having a 3rd Gen radio head have 155 or more contacts loaded and have both e-mail notifications and sms notifications turned on and have no problems with the system switching between the home screen to the notification and back to the home screen?
