2023 A/T foot off gas petal, Tacoma basically keeps going

I have a brand new 2023 Off Road Tacoma.
really like the Truck except for the Automatic Transmission.
Like most drivers, my normal driving is on city streets.
When approaching a intersection or traffic light at maybe 45 mph, I take my foot off the gas
petal. Tacoma drops to 43 or 44 mph and basically keeps going at that speed till I hit the brake petal.

To me this is not right. I can never coast to a stop. If I do not put on the brakes, the truck still
keeps going at not much of a reduced speed.

Not time to take the truck back for the first check and Salesman told me all of them do it.

Is there a fix or do all 2023 Off Roads operate this way?

My brake pads will thank you for a fix.

My 23 OR does NOT do that. If anything, I get engine braking.

They're trying to make the machine as efficient as possible. Coasting saves gas

Try dropping it down a gear by hand

You need to take it back. My 2021 Off Road coasts like every vehicle when the foot comes off the pedal. Except down hill. Mine coasts going down a hill.
Next time, watch your engine RPM. If it drops and you still feel the sensation of coasting too fast, then you have an ultra efficient truck and there is nothing they can do. But, if the engine RPM stays up at same level as when you were accelerating, then something is wrong.

Conservation of momentum. It's not going to engine brake like a manual transmission.

I only had this unnerving sensation with my 2020 TRD Sport in the first few months of ownership and it only happened briefly. Has not happened again.

Tested this on the way home.
3723 miles on TRD Sport DCLB:
Hit 45 mph pushing gas on flat country road. Took foot off gas. Speed down and once it hits 30-35 mph it downshifts and slows more. Once I went 150-200 yards I was down to 25 mph and had enough. What more is it supposed to do? I don’t want it slowing down more than that. Of course I have -gasp - the dreaded front skirt still on. Maybe that’s wind braking me. Lol

he has the optional super-auto cruise. automatically sets itself at any speed and keeps going until the truck explodes.

OP, use the brakes. that's what they're for.

The truck should not maintain its speed with your foot off the gas pedal, assuming the ground is level. Friction and wind resistance alone should start slowing you down if the throttle is not engaged. If yours is maintaining a high speed than your throttle is sticking and needs to be looked at.

got a bit over 1000 miles on the off road Taco, goes in at 5000 for the first Toyota check up.

I will see what they have to say.

Have not used the cruise control and do not think it has been turned on yet.

You might need to take the service manager for a ride; they may take a very cursory look and say "couldn't replicate the issue."

I don’t know what you have driven before, but an a/t taco behaves much the same as every a/t I’ve driven. They don’t generally apply engine braking for you. They tend to coast along in a high gear. If you want more engine braking, use s-mode. It’s what it’s for. See owners manual for more info.
