Completely stock 2023 SR V6 4x4. Around maybe 1k miles I started to notice a vibration under braking, mainly around 35 mph and under. It's not that noticeable, but enough that it bothers me.

I took the truck to the dealer for the 5k service and told them to look into it, but they said I'd have to pay for that since I didn't buy the truck from them, which I refused. All they could do is "inspect" it for free. I told them to at the very least take a look at the rear brakes to see if they are warped, which they did and they found no issues apparently. I feel like the vibration is worse now since having them inspect it.

I'm going to contact Toyota and see what they say, along with finding a new dealer if Toyota decides to help me look into the issue. I'm still debating whether this is even an issue that is worth my time and a bunch of trips to the dealer. In other threads I've seen on the same issue, seems like for most people it never actually got resolved despite TSB's and changing parts. I'm thinking it might be the driveline angle is off, but why would the vibration get worse after the dealer inspected it?

Are any other 2023 owners facing a similar vibration? Or previous model year owners with similar issues, what were the end results, got it fixed or just lived with it?

There are some threads around here talking about driveline vibration while slowing down around the 25-30mph range. Some say it's a Toyota thing, some have had leaf springs replaced, drive shaft adjusted with minimal improvement. I had it with my 22 SR5 that I had for a short time before trading for my pro. My pro has it but it's very slight.

Mine did this when new and it was the rear drums being out of round.

Nope. Fine since they fixed it. Truck only had like 2-3k miles on it. 0 charge from dealer but it was where I bought it from.

Yeah I've seen a lot of threads about it too but there doesn't seem to be conclusive answers usually. People just dissappear, I assume they just live with it or sell the truck.

Exactly. Some also said it got better with break in. It annoyed the hell out of me in the SR5. Brand new truck and I was like WTF is this crap??

Good to hear that you got it fixed. Can't go to my selling dealer as it's 500 miles away. I'm in SoCal and it seems there's no good dealers around, which is why I had to go so far to purchase the truck in the first place.

I'm at 5k and assume it'll only get more difficult to get the dealer to help as the miles go up.

Hoping Toyota helps out in making a dealer actually look into the issue. My local dealer wanted $180, screw that, it's a 3 month old truck under warranty.

mine is also stock and had the vibration during braking as well. it became less as i put more miles on. i still notice it at times but it is minor. i don't like it but i choose to avoid the dealer and just live with it.

mine was doing same type of thing. I read on here that some dudes had loose u-bolts . I checked mine, 5 of the 16 were loose. I torqued them up and it went away for me. Otherwise I would've suggested my part out.

Glad I seen this thread. I got 13,300 miles and this started recently. Atleast I got an idea what to look for now.

If your truck is stock and under the basic warranty there is no reason a dealer can charge you for looking at the truck, regardless of where you bought it.
They know this is a common complaint on these trucks and it can be time consuming to fix. My suspicion is this dealer has had a hard time with this issue and they are blowing you off. It also leads to a possible indication of how incompetent the techs are as they cannot address a challenging concern.
First, I'd call Toyota and complain. That's a breach of contract on your implied warranty. Second, find another dealer because the dealer you mentioned is not competent.
I worked at two RAM dealers from 1993-2019 and we had some dark years with drive line vibration. Finally they offered an NVH analysis course for the technicians to teach them how to diagnose and fix/reduce drive line vibration. Sometime around 2009 (intro of 5 link/coil rear suspension and PROPER TECH TRAINING) along with a change of manufacturing of the prop shafts the complaints disappeared.

FIND ANOTHER DEALER THAT IS WILLING TO DO THE JOB. As a long time service manager/technician I always told my techs this: "If you cannot fix these vehicles under warranty, it's a very high probability the customer will never return once the warranty is over to hand you their hard earned money for even basic maintenance".

We had the busiest service department in the area, people would come in and give us a blank check after the warranty expired because they KNEW we would fix the car/truck.....even if it was a bit expensive. They trusted us and it was no coincidence we had the highest satisfaction ratings (CSI and FFV) in our district for over a decade.

Another bit of philosophy I learned to instill into my techs: "The price is long forgotten when the quality remains".

One answer to this question that will put you in the right direction in terms of diagnosis:

Does it vibrate the same at this speed if you COAST in neutral, or just when the brakes are applied?

Mine has done this since shortly after I got it. 2018, dealer was no help, wanted to charge me for new brake drums and claimed they where rusty and I don’t drive the truck enough. Was kinda funny, nothing in Toyota manual or service book about “minimum amount of driving” some of us own more than one vehicle lol popped drums off at home and they where mint, because of course they where. You’ll likely have to fix this on your own. My dealer didnt even listen when I said “It doesn’t happen in neutral, why would it be brakes”

The vibration is still there when I brake in neutral, but very less apparent. I'd say 50% less. I haven't tried coasting in neutral though, I'll try that.

Also, I agree that I need to find a different dealer. I noticed that they didn't ask for my email, probably because they knew I would give them a bad rating on the survey if I was sent one.

Toyota already knows how to send you a survey regardless if they ask for your e mail…..and your absolutely correct. They don’t want you as a customer for some reason or another. I’m sure they’re more than willing if you wanted a 30,000 mile service.
As far as the vibration, (as you describe it) it could be some axle/leaf spring wind up when stopping. If you still feel it coasting to a stop it’s definitely NOT the brakes.
IDK if any of these trucks are vibration free. I’ve owned four Toyota trucks and every one of them had some type of driveline vibration.
Try the coast down method and let us know!
