Didn't drive truck for a week. Been sick. 3000 miles on the clock. Never had a battery problem until now.
Went out yesterday & no dash lights, nothing. Popped hood, measured voltage, dead.
Charged battery in truck with a 3v charger w/ batt cables disconnected. Took nearly 24 hrs.

This is the 2nd time this has happened.

Made appointment with dealer for tomorrow morning.

Called Autoclub out, they did a load test on battery. They say battery is good @ 86% (after I charged it up). Garage kept, left nothing on. Headlight & interior lights go off automatically. Bed light always set to off. Stock truck, no LEDS or light bars. Only mod is a BackFlip bed cover & the OEM remote tailgate lock. Keyless start factory installed. With the battery back in truck, starts & there is no charging system error message. Like it never happened.

I'll let dealer figure it out but I have a few questions.

    Charging a dead battery-
Should it be disconnected from vehicle before you charge it?
Is it ok to charge using a 3 amp trickle charger w/ cables still connected?
Instructions w/ charger say it's safe.
When reinstalling a fully charged battery in the vehicle that had a dead battery- is there a procedure? I've heard stories of the board thinking battery is dead & alt overcharging the fully charged battery.

Last- if battery is an issue- will these alternators charge a AGM battery correctly?

Where are your key fobs? I’ve heard of folks batteries dying because they had them stored too close and the proximity sensors kept chatting with them.

You will charge faster by disconnecting the battery, especially if you have a parasitic draw somewhere.

Key fobs in the house, not near the truck.
I'll let dealer tackle if there's a parasitic draw somewhere. I suck at modern wiring.

It’s under warranty, I wouldn’t touch it if you were an automotive electrician.

I'm not. Goes to dealer in morning. I fear they will just say all is well.

Or hold the lock button while double pressing the unlock button (red led indicator light will flash). Bonus this will prolong the 2032

The remotes being the cause of the truck battery going dead is unlikely I’d think. But I’ve also just fixed a faulty steering angle sensor due to either trying to start a drained battery or jumping it with a noco, which neither should technically cause and yet it did.

Just a few accessories, mud flaps, bed cover , racks, seat covers, ….

I’ll watch this thread, very interested to see what caused this issue. People encounter this problem 3 to 5 years later on their trucks.please give us an update as you go on.

And realistically, I fear your fear is very real. Post back what they tell you if you think of it. The ideal situation is you just got a bad battery somehow and they replace it.

The factory batteries can be iffy. Mine lasted 6 years. Others have theirs go after only 3. It's possible you got a bad one, but I'd guess there's some sort of draw. Please update us with what the dealership finds. I highly doubt the key fob has anything to do with it.

Got my mail today- recall for drivers air bag loom in column.
I've heard horror stories of dealer not releasing vehicle while they have it due to a major safety issue. Also heard of them not having parts in stock & will hold vehicle until part comes in.
Truck goes in tomorrow for the battery. Do I bring the letter or wait & inquire with the letter & no truck? Letter says they need to check loom serial number.
Or will they see the recall & not release my vehicle, even if I didn't order the work done?
    I need truck for work.

Maybe call them and ask about the recall and see if they have the parts in stock to do the repair. If not, tell them your situation, maybe you can get a loaner if they need to hold it?

No only to 80% or so it needs 1/2 volt higher, ECU flash or just top it off every few weeks with a good Noco AGM charger-1 or 2amp is fine.

That works as well, but for an antitheft deterrent, the faded case works much better. I can get others to put the key fob in the case, but trying to get others to remember to put the key fob to sleep is different story. Thus the acquisition of the case

One thing to remember, factory batteries, just like tires are the cheapest items that can meet the design specs of the manufacturer.

They rarely are the highest of quality, rarely last as long as replacements do

So the question is...if you have no mods that put a heavy drain on the battery/charging system why did you swap out the factory battery for an AGM with less than 3000 miles on the odometer?

Not the factory battery, or even the correct replacement battery. Dealer may very well tell you to kick rocks once they realize that.
