Its a factory AGM battery??? Didnt think toyota was installing those yet? Maintenance free yes but AGM?

Or where you just asking about using an AGM battery as a replacement...

Power lock could be the issue and cause a parasitic draw.
They way they add its circuit, it could keep CAN modules awake and they will drain the battery for sure over extended period of time

It took me a bit to make it a habit but it’s natural for me now. It wasn’t mentioned so I brought it up because it’s a factory option as both anti theft deterrent and battery saver (i did this immediately with my spare remote before storing away)

Do vehicles normally sit untouched for a week and then still start? I've rarely left a vehicle undriven for that long. Although I did recently have that issue with my 17 earlier this week. But still on stock battery and likely parasitic drain from aftermarket wiring

Yes. A vehicle should be able to sit for a month or two at a minimum and still start.

I also don't buy the hypothesis of the fob drain. Their coms don't produce a large enough draw.

My money is on parasitic draw from the port improperly installing tailgate lock/bed lights or other accessory that we all assumed was stock.

Edit: it's the keyless start. That's another dealer/port accessory. You'd be surprised at what doesn't come from the actual Toyota factory. The floor mats aren't even factory.

My ‘92 diesel 3/4 ton sometimes sits for a month without running. Dual Red Tops. Starts every time.

My last truck - a 2020 F150 died in my driveway after 4 days of not driving it. Dealer had to explain to me that walking by the truck with the fob in my pocket was enough to drain the battery, if you walk by too often. Evidently, if the fob gets close, the vehicle has to power up a bunch of computerized shit or the truck won't be ready to start when you get in. Pissed me off. Started looking for something else. I have a MT Tacoma now - no FOB, it has key start only so I hope it can be left standing around occasionally.

Ok- here's the update from Toyota
Took it in today, told him what it did. Told him when I bought the new truck, it had an alarm added on top of MSRP I told them to remove. I asked him to check that because I had the same issue on a 2nd gen.
He wrote the ticket up saying battery was dead, customer removed alarm the next day. I questioned that, he says they have no record of alarm installed or removed by dealer.

    Battery checked out ok.
Found no excessive amp draw. All within specs. Won't check alarm wiring as it's aftermarket, even though sold by Toyota.

I will take it to the stereo/alarm guy I went to before & have him remove all of it inc grounds near battery.

On the airbag recall- they said my truck was ok.
8 hrs I'll never get back.

It's no wonder dealers get a bad rep.

Yes. I have 3 vehicles, used to have 4. Van gets driven only on Sunday when the whole family goes to church, otherwise wifr and I drive our Toyotas..
When I still had Veracruz, I would drive it once a month, just to circulate the fluids.

I think it’s very common for anyone that takes a week-long vacation or more. Lots of people aren’t taking their vehicles except to the airport where it sits for a week or more.

What do you think people do when they vacation by flying somewhere? Probably have their vehicle sitting somewhere until they return.

I think you are wise to first go after the aftermarket wiring and go to a boom boom stereo shop that does this type of stuff.

Shocking. Toyota dealer won't touch a "sold by toyota" addon.

I have little faith in the Toyota battery. Too many people with too many issues. Even though Auto Club & Toyota say battery is ok, I still may change out battery for peace of mind. I mentioned AGM if I decided to replace the battery. I can save the Toyota battery, I have other vehicles it would work in.

At the end of the day, they did nothing to assure me that this would not happen again.

I don't feel that confident that the dealer took the time to find the issue & this may repeat itself.

You have a brand new battery under factory warranty, I would let that one ride for a bit brother! If the battery passed a load test, then it is fine. But then again, what the hell do I know!

    Carry on!

During the pandemic my neighbors wife lost her job and as a result they parked their one year old Hyundai and didnt drive it. Six months later her husband comes over to borrow my battery charger since the car wouldnt start. Grabbed a multi meter and went over to check. Battery was at 6.79 volts (dead as a doornail and never coming back) so gave up on charger since it wouldnt help. So what do they do, they grab a new battery, put it in and since the car was never started for another six months it suffered the same fate. They finally took the hint to not even put a battery in it till they were going to put it back on the road.

All in all car was sitting for over two years and they even had to replace 4 brand new tires that had by now become permanently flat spotted. Spent $2500 to get it back on the road, gave it to their son (new driver) who then wrote it off 3 weeks later...

And the thing was I told them everything they needed to do to prevent all those repairs but they thought they knew better.

It's amazing how people can be so clueless. The neighbor has a fancy Volvo, lost his job during the flu, and parked it, due to the back window being knocked out. He's very long winded, so I didn't ask,,, and he had another story about waiting another 6 months to get it fixed, since he was waiting X amount of time, since they had an insurance claim Y amount of months/years ago.
Of course the back glass for the Volvo was god awful expensive, so I could see him needing to get insurance involved. He parked out back behind his garage and put a tarp over it. I remember warning him- not to let it sit too long. Never once did he bother to go peel off the tarp, start it, and drive around the block on a warm sunny day. Fast forward many months later, you know- he goes to start it,, it won't start, he's out there dicken with the battery, then days later it's towed off to the dealer to spend another couple months there, getting rear glass and other repairs (presumably a new battery, and who knows what else). He's easily put more than it's worth in to that stupid car in the short time I have been seeing my GF and staying over at her house at times.
