    My idea, which absolutely will never happen, but would be extremely entertaining...

    Have 12 teams of two cars each.
    Only 22 cars can race on Sunday.
    Whoever doesn't make the top 22 on Saturday quali, for whatever reason, doesn't race.

    There used to be a rule in F1 where you had to be within a certain time of the pole lap or you didn't qualify? 105 or 110% or something I dont remember and not sure if that is still in effect? Other series have so many grid positions they via for. "If you cant cut it get out of the way" or "Don't be the slowest team"
    I hope Andretti / Caddy get in, that would be awesome. The proposed deal with Apple? Another way to suck the life and $$$ out of everyone.

    In the Ford Cosworth DFV days there was a Friday session in which backmarkers would compete to see who got into qualifying on Saturday. There were as many as 34 cars vying for 25 quali spots. I'm not sure how many of them were open for the Friday folks to fight over.
