The BMW X5 40E hybrid I had prior to my Tacoma learned my daily commute and would manage maximized my MPG. I would not mind getting a new X5 45E but I am having too much fun with my Tacoma.

I think as long as I can continue to buy gas for my Tacoma, I will keep it. I live on a hillside coffee farm, just to get home you need a 4x4. Off the grid too, No electric.

You will probably save money on gas, and pay more up front. I don't know if a plug in hybrid, or any hybrid adds any longevity, or reliability to a vehicle. I don't know if it's a negative in those categories either.

    I’m betting on “i-FORCE MAX 3.5-Liter Twin-Turbo V6 Hybrid ‐ 437 hp @ 5200 rpm, 583 lb.-ft. @ 2400 rpm” being the 4th generation Tacoma engine.

Toyota needs to be more competitive. More horse power, and better mileage, a better transmission. Led lighting everywhere inside and out.
With the higher prices , people expect more. Hood struts, driver side grab handles, more bed side storage,
Even the cloth strap hooks to lift the rear seats, they cut that out! Why to save two dollars?

So it will have a Tundra frame and a Lexus car motor. 1st and 2nd gen Tacoma looking better and better.

If the Tacoma ends up a heavier vehicle, it will negate much of the power gains. Just like the 2nd vs 3rd gen Tacoma. More horses, but it weighs 500 LB heavier.

Honestly, none of this has hurt their sales, so they don’t really have to do anything.

The biggest fear I have about a PHEV is when the government needs to make up for the road tax not being paid for by gas tax and starts taxing mileage, all the savings will evaporate, and I would be left with a complex expensive to fix powertrain with no upside.

We almost ended up with an X5e. The Q5e has been on order for about 10 months, and a few months ago the order was essentially canceled. So we started shopping elsewhere and were literally days away from placing the order for a BMW when our Audi guy called and offered us a random car they were allocated that was *close* to what we ordered. We liked the BMW a lot, and I'm sure we would have been just as happy with it as we are the Audi so far.

In the case of the Q5e, it performs about the same as the SQ5, and they cost about the same. The Q5e definitely outperforms the base Q5, both in zip and fuel economy, but costs more. When you factor in the $7500 from your uncle, the Q5e seemed like a strong value to us, and if you do some googling you'll find that a lot of journalists feel that it's the one to get.

As for longevity and reliability, of course it's more complex and there's more that can go wrong. The good news is that these companies seem to have figured it out pretty well. We typically don't keep cars more than 3-5 years, so it didn't play a part in our decision making. I probably wouldn't own one over 100k miles, but then again, I don't have much confidence in my Tacoma with 130k either.

If the next gen tacoma gets that engine as an option and that's a big if, it certainly won't make the same power as the tundra. It will likely be tuned less and only available in certain trims, one most likely being the trd pro.

The more EVs that hit the road, the more the need to upgrade the electric grid and power generation. Regardless of the fact that electric rates vary from region to region, the government will soon start heavily taxing electric power consumption.

I'm a bit of a hypocrite. I watch a ton of youtube, but I have been having a growing disdain for youtubers the last 5 years.
When I think of youtubers the words: disingenuous, Clout chasing, soap box, Confirmation bias, intentional disinformation, and click bait come to mind.

Changes from gas to EVs will create newer and different problems. Highway taxes? Maybe added to electric bills?
Old EV batteries will be the new bio hazards. EV car insurance $$$$? EV Mechanics will create higher repair cost?
The future ? We will be too dependent on electricity!

Ford is going to change how dealership owners need to be separated from EV dealership from gas owners.
What the future will bring? A change of how we live.
