I had a busy week... Wasn't here to respond. So please excuse my delay. I can't just not respond to comments on my guy.

The sad truth is... Matty likes the smaller schedule and the Rackley organization... So him leaving anytime soon may not be in the cards. I'd love to see him in Cup again down the road but...
I'll answer this one in a minute... First...

When Penske decided 2021 was his last year in the WNR ride... They gave him little support and his season suffered. When Brad left and opened up the 2... Matty really hoped Wood Bros would reconsider. I buy in to the conspiracy Ward worked Penske over to get his son in that ride...

... Matty was genuinely hurt and felt betrayed when WBR cast him to the side... Waaaaay late in silly season to do anything for 2022. He went emotional and said some things. That indeed hurt his chances for a high tier high series ride going forward.

I will say he is having a stellar 2023 campaign. Has posted a top 10 in every race since N. Wilksboro. And remember... Rackley is a underfunded 1 team truck only operation. They sub out pit duties to HMS, and get limited support from them. He has once again taken a lower tier team to the pinnacle. I mean... Look at the rest of the CWTS playoff drivers... He's up there with the big boys on a 2nd rate team. If that ain't raw talent......

Now to the present. Congrats Mikey for handling bidness

Had a local TW meet today and recorded the race. Just finished up watching it. Wow the Indy Road course has come a long ways to becoming a damn good race. Congratulations to the 34 for putting a whooping on them.

Definitely better than the dive-bomb wreck fest of years past. But IDK if I'd consider it good. It did have some exciting moments. But it's time to bring back the oval again.

I don't doubt that someone got a ride because of their connections. It's literally the only explanation I can think of for why KBM kept Harrison Burton and Todd Gilliland for so long when neither really did much. But that being said, you combine the WBR performance with Matty D's performance and his wanting to be more outspoken about things some consider to be controversial and I think they had to decide the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. Plus I think other teams thought the same when he was open and honest saying he was looking for a team that would allow him to be that guy. Much like a certain former NFL QB, he just didn't have the talent to justify the (potential) controversy. Especially for the tier of rides he would have had at his disposal who need those sponsorship $ pretty badly just to stay mid-pack. That's my take though. Idk if we'll ever see him in cup again except for a one-off here and there. But, never say never. Look at Michael McDowell's career. Or John Hunter Nemecheck, although he's much younger.

NASCAR was also quoted as saying, "Regardless of who the final 4 are in Phoenix, Chase will be gifted the 2023 Championship as he's our favorite"
