I have never seen that amount of commercials. Holy shit, it felt like every three laps. Even the wrap up. All they talked to was KB. Cut to commercial said three sentences and cut back to commercial.

A win is a win, but it's all about luck with that kind of racing. You can't even really look at who was "strong" and who wasn't because some of the best finishing cars deliberately run around at the back all race to better have a chance at avoiding wrecks.

Larson's car was taken back to the R&D center after his roll cage collapsed in from his wreck. My first thought was that it absorbed impact but then I realized that if it was a driver's side hit, Larson would be dead.

Part of me wonders if HMS maybe manipulated this part of the car for weight or something in an area that "doesn't matter."

I hope that is not the case. It was a violent hit at full speed. I think the roll cage did its job and collapsed, absorbing the brunt of the impact. To your point though, driver side, would have been fatal.

I thought the same thing but from what I've heard, the roll cage isn't supposed to move pretty much at all. I'd hope that isn't the case either, but with the penalties that have come out lately, part of me wonders if that isn't the case. I get they have a minimum weight requirement, but that doesn't mean they couldn't, say, use some thinner tubing on that side and put the weight elsewhere in the car to help handling at certain tracks. It's not like they necessarily test the thickness of the tubing every week (I could be wrong).

If I drove a race car and the team altered my roll cage or safety equipment I wouldn’t even answer the phone when they wondered why I didn’t show up.

You really think they cut corners on a roll cage? I’m sorry but this sounds stupid.

I wouldn't think, but like I said, part of me wonders especially given that it wasn't by the driver and HMS has been pushing the envelope lately. I believe they took the car to the R&D center so that should tell more soon enough. I'm guessing the more likely answer is something else, but we'll see.

They take any car that failed in a safety aspect to the R&D center. Did the same with Newmans when the cage buckled in the Daytona crash. HMS is not fucking around with safety. Jesus!

Larsons crash was essentially what happens when a car is stuck on a train track. Also, the driver’s compartment is substantially stronger. Had it been on the drivers side it would not have been good but considering both parties walked away you guys are talking out your ass.

I would hope not. But my point in mentioning the R&D center is simply that they're studying it. Is it something in the engineering that needs to be addressed? Is it something that was improperly done or manipulated? That's what they're going to look at to find out what happened.

They are checking to see if they need to change something in what they (NASCAR) mandated in how the cars are constructed. IE, checking to see why NASCARs engineering failed, not HMS. I would bet the cars that come out of HMS are the best constructed on the track. We are lucky it was not an underfunded team.

Now, in the next few days it will come out that HMS did some shady shit. The way my lucks been going. Who knows but I think it’s highly unlikely. I watched the in car from Larsons car and it did not seem bad at all. The in car from the 41 was fucking violent though.
