Wife drives a ( bought it new ) 2017 Forester. It is a great handling car for sure and if I ever go back to a 'car' it will be a Subaru for sure.
She talked me into my Tacoma - and I love it too - so our driveway is a sweet sight for sure.

Dachshunds are the best campers. Here’s our 2 campers who are no longer with us doing what they do best.

Give till after church today and I'll post one of my 2023 Solar Octane with the head lights on....Not sure how well they will show, it's going to be a bright sunny day here in Georgia.

Here it is sitting in the yard with what looks like a used car lot....The 99 Tacoma was sold yesterday. Still trying to sale the Corvette.

My first new vehicle 2023 Lunar Rock, Off Road, it mobs the snow and down the back roads with ease, love driving it, had to travel a few hours and pay a deposit, then wait over a month but we’ll worth it 64BB51B9-0EE0-45F1-A10B-2915BDA2DB5E.jpg

Walk around as requested with head light and blinkers. Not sure how well it will show it's bright and sunny out. Maybe if someone wants to see it at dusk I'll shoot another one.

You did same flight as me, what dealer in Illinois did you end up with? I see you have similar equipment with the port installed options (splash guards, roof rails).

Yeah I’m here after my 10/14/21 Maverick order still hasn’t been built. My Tacoma should be here late December.

Yeah, when I lost hope to get one exactly what I wanted in western Washington for msrp, I started calling IL since I have family there and lot of other dealers like Arlington and Schaumburg toyota had many they said they don't do out of state bu lt Elgin sold me one and they have a weird deal, like 2500 discount on msrp but dealer add on 5k, I said I will buy for msrp no discount but dont pay dealer add on or market adjustment and they agreed and sold the truck to original msrp.

Well, you asked for 2023 owners who bought new thoughts about the truck but this model hasn't changed much at all since introduction back in 2016 so I'll give you my thoughts of a 2021 SR5.

I'll give you the final verdict first: Would I buy another? Hell Yes! Until Toyota screws them up, I'll keep coming back. Everything else is an electronics nightmare in my book. Or just too damned big for my tastes. Usually both.

    What I got:
Mine is a series-x predator SR5. Comes with raptor running boards, factory installed hard 3 section tonneau cover, black badges, and TRD wheels. I've added 2 inch blind spot mirrors, a bedrug mat and tailgate mat, in channel window visors, tray in the center console, and a 3rd party mud guards that look factory installed. I have the automatic DCSB in white. 4x4. I tell most people the truck is a mountain goat. Sure footed but not fast. Tight turning radius. Excellent ground clearance. Reasonable power but don't expect it to pull a house of a foundation. No problems with the truck. I have 20k miles on it and have owned it for just over 1 year. It replaced an F150 XLT FX4 with EB 3.5. They are night and day trucks.

    What I think:
Overall, I like the truck. It fits my body fine, is comfortable to ride in though it feels a little cheap. That's always been par for the course to me of Toyota trucks (since about 1980s on) except for the Tundra. Four minutes or four hour drives don't leave me hurting when I get out.

    What I like:
    • Tight turning radius
    • Smaller body easy to drive/park
    • Good visibility all around
    • Easy getting into/out of
    • Rides comfortably
    • Will move but you got to force it
    • Enough pockets to put small things in
    • Good heater once I start driving
    • 4x4 system shifts smoothly into and out of 2Hi/4Hi. If not for the dash light, won't notice which mode it is in. Never used 4Lo so can't comment.
    What I don't like:
    • Gas mileage sucks. I've owned a Nissan Titan that was just as good on fuel despite being bigger and more powerful
    • Transmission - It likes to get into highest gear asap and shifts a lot on highway drives in the foothills of my home state. Walks through gears on some hills constantly. Have to use S5 or even S4 to stop it
    • Engine behaves more like an I-4 than a V6. Got to wind it up to get power out of it
    • Poor leg room. Seats are too low to the floor board for most though for my short legs it works fine
    • Poor storage space for anything bigger than gloves, maps, and other small things so prepare to have a large tote to store in the bed or a truck toolbox
    • Cruise control on highway in foothills terrain. Truck gets really shift happy
    • The wonky way Toyota's programming handles the transmission. Takes a fair amount of boot to the peddle to make it downshift then have to give it another boot to the peddle to get another downshift
For reference, I'm a 50 year old, 5'6" tall, 240 lb man with short limbs. Most every control I want to get to I can without much effort. For city driving, it's reasonably good and well behaved. For highway driving, on flat terrain, also well behaved. Foothills, best you run it in S mode so you can help it in places it has trouble figuring out the gear to use. Shifting into S mode instructs it to direct jump to 4 so better to start the trip in S mode and leave it there or wait until in 4th to shift into S mode. Country music helps on the long trips with foothills (for me at least). I recommend Waylon Jennings - Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys and others of this type of country music.

Interesting side node: When running in S5, sometimes the truck will unlock the torque converter instead of downshifting to 4th which seems to make enough torque to keep it from downshifting. Engine races up a little bit, about 500 rpms, but not enough to indicate it has dropped to 4th. S mode simply limits the highest gear it will use. It does not instruct the transmission to shift up or down. It is not a manual shift mode.

Important consideration: I wanted this truck because of all the trucks I could buy in 2021 that were primitive, the Tacoma and the 2021 Tundra were it. Everything else was/is too electronic-ized for my tastes. Not sure what I'll be able to replace this one with when the time comes. Hopefully, Toyota will keep it simple.

Just got a 2023 2.7L DCSB yesterday. The simplest you can make a modern truck and I went with a ten year. I had an emergency pacemaker install earlier this year at age 39; I am done fixing things other than doing the basic fluid changes and maybe the front brakes. Only added 20 bucks a month, so not exactly breaking the bank for a lot of peace of mind.

Nice. You’re going to enjoy the truck a lot! The more I hear about ford recalls and all the other nonsense going on, I’m glad it worked out this way.
