I've been searching for a used Tacoma for a few months. Here I was, thinking that I'd save by purchasing something used rather than brand new. The asking price for some of these used ones are pretty ridiculous. I finally gave up and searched for a brand new truck. Came home with 2023 Lunar Rock Off Road last night. I currently own a 4th gen 4runner. I haven't driven it enough to give proper pros/cons, but if it's anything like my 4runner, I'm sure I'll love it.

You mean a 10 year added warranty? Hmm, how did you get it so cheap? I didn't finance my truck, I paid off the balance after trade outright, but the extended warranty was like $9k for the lowest tier and $12k for the premium. I don't think any of them were 10 year either, but I'd have to look. I declined. Regardless, none of those would be the equivalent of $20/month.

If I could have gotten a 2023 Pro in LR it would have been a real hard choice. I really liked that color but a low mileage used LR Pro was almost as much as a new one.

I don’t understand why. If 4 other manufacturers can offer V8s and NA V6s why not Toyota?

Nissan is only one offering V6 after Toyota makes move to 4 cylinder only. It’s very complicated on the why, but I imagine Cafe standards have a lot to do with it.

I was lucky and mine was also an MT. I heard too many horror stories about the CVT's. I was however bit by the common center diff failure with the 5MT. I pulled it apart myself and fixed it which kept costs down. I used it as a truck quite a few different times LOL.

One thing I’ve never understood is people saying they received compliments on their new vehicle. What is it they are being complimented for???? Going into debt on an depreciating asset ???? Qualifying for a loan?? Yes I’ve had new cars and trucks over my lifetime…

Another unnecessary rude non-value added post on the 3rd gen forum from someone that has never owned a 2016 or newer Tacoma …..

I paid cash…. So no loan or monthly payment for me. I buy used if the market is correct but all the dealers around here wanted as much as $15,000 over MSRP for a used 2022 Pro. Me and the wife live a simple life in a simple house, most of my cloths come from GW Boutique. I’m known for being cheap until I really want something and then I get what I want and have no problem afforded it.

TLDR: Sales guy sucked, managers cut a deal on the warranty to make good.

I had a really bad sales man, He would go weeks with out getting back to my communications, had no real answers when he did and would constantly forget to follow up. When the truck arrived last Thursday, I let him know I would be coming in on Saturday(dealer is an hour away). On Friday, I got with him at 11 am that I will be at the dealer at 900AM and I need to get out as soon as possible. I sent them the binder and asked if they need anything else. I had already downloaded the Toyota app and created an account, I was prepared. I also told him I wanted to order the Miller cat shield at that time, so it could go on the loan.

I get there on Saturday at 9 am, and the truck has not even been prepped. I had originally been there in Augus to get a rav4, but went with a tacoma a month or so later due to a combo of changing needs and availability; He had to do all the paper work again and I had to do another credit app. All things which could have been done the previous day. I had business back home so needed to be out a soon as possible. The guy didnt even have pen to have me start filling out the paperwork, this guy couldn't pour water out of a boot if the instructions were written on the bottom.

I got with the sales manager and finance manager and explained the whole process, from putting money down in August, to today. I have 15 years in retail, most of it in leadership, I understand how to speak to sales managers in a calm and concise manner. They sent the sales man away and took over. During the final steps, they go through the normal warranty/tire/paint protection stuff, and i told them based on the sales expierience, why would I give them even more money? To make good on the poor sales experience, they gave me the 10 year at cost. Includes tire and rim protection too. Didnt order the cat shield as I dont really want to go back to that dealer.

The thing is, dont berate a salesman or their managers, you will just be laughed at later once you are gone. Give them the ability to make good and give them reasonable expectations. I bought a base SR DCSB, there is not much in margain, and they could have sold it to 4 other people that day. Warranties have margin, you go to a big box store, and buy a warranty for a computer, you may pay 1-300 dollars, employee cost is probably 60-100. They can take a hit there, still be profitable and get that all important attach rate.

If they dont, blast them on google reviews, toyotas own review and never recommend the store/dealer yada yada.

Wow sounds like a terrible experience. Glad to hear the dealer made good on it and gave you such an incredible rate on the warranty.
