I'm actually satisfied with MGM. Sure if the truck is dirty, it will show just like most colors. But swirls and fine scratches aren't easily noticeable as much as I thought they'd be. I had a black mustang once....never again will I do black unless the vehicle is going to be a straight up beater.

    Working on it ...
My first new truck was a black 1988 Toyota. Nice truck. When it was clean people would stop me and tell that truck “looked like art”! It was beautiful. I swore I would never get another black vehicle again! It black is indeed beautiful when it’s clean. But if you actually drive it … it’s a bear to keep clean. Especially in winter months.

Fast forward to December 28, 2019 … bam, 4 Toyota trucks later and I’m back in Black. Looks beautiful when clean … but my truck is not a trophy truck. I drive it, I work it and frankly, it is rarely all that clean. But 52k carefree miles later, I still am very happy with it!

My dad always said everyone needs to own a black vehicle . . . once. I had a black Vette, my one and only black vehicle. They do look fantastic when clean, though.

Black is such a great color on the third gen Tacoma but if you're even slightly OCD on keeping your truck clean, I suggest you get another color.
On the other hand, if you enjoy detailing a black vehicle the fruits of the labor are satisfying.

    Check build thread!
I have a black off-road and it swirls like crazy, is a bitch to keep clean, scratches amazingly easy, and is a fucking oven in the summer.

However, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I had a 22 and it had THE worst paint job of any vehicle I’ve ever seen. So much so that I traded it in for another pro. Tons of solvent pop, weird holograms where the metallic flake seemed to have clustered together, tons of moisture under the clear coat giving it a milky appearance under some light. I’m guessing the paint was rushed or wasn’t cured properly or had an adverse reaction to the climate in Mexico but it was super disappointing spending so much and getting a paint job that you’d expect from the B team Maaco.

That said there was nothing wrong with the paint itself (my complaints were with the application) and I would say that the black pro looks the most menacing, I probably would have kept it. It’s definitely under the radar but it still turns heads when it’s clean.

One thing black has going for it is that pretty much ANY finish wheels will go well with black.

I had a black TRD OR 4Runner for a couple of years. Definitely my favorite color, but a royal pain in the arse to clean and keep clean. I wouldn't recommend black paint unless you have a basic understanding of detailing. MGM is very forgiving and still looks somewhat clean when dirty.

I own a black 2021 TRD Pro and I really enjoy it, honestly the best vehicle I’ve ever owned.

My first Tacoma was one of the very first 3rd gen 2016’s that was a TRD-OR that was in Barcelona Red, but I always wanted the extra features of the Pro. That truck served me well, but in the very beginning of the pandemic when dealerships were begging people to buy vehicles I found an epic deal on a Black 2021 Pro 4-hours away. So after negotiating a fair deal on my trade and making that drive, about 90-minutes after arriving at that dealership I was driving back in my dream truck.

When I was shopping I test drove a grey TRD Pro too, but it just didn’t feel like me. My hope was that Barcelona Red would make it back around in the special color rotation like it was in 2017, but I gave up on waiting and went with black.

I’ve owned a few black sports cars before, so I knew the chore having black would be — but if you’re into cars its worth the labor of love. Sure on trails it turns chalky grey with all the dust… and if it rains its a spotted mess... But if you either subscribe to one of those “unlimited” car wash places, or have good carwash tools and supplies at home it’s pretty manageable. I do like that since my truck sits up so high it gets significantly less pits from driving than my sports cars did. My truck is garage kept, so that helps keeping it clean manageable too.

Jumping from a 2016 to a 2021 was well worth it to me. The truck is MUCH more refined, and the Pro VIN gives it a future resale value boost. I like having a sun roof again, which is something I missed not having while I owned the 2016 Off-road. I also really like the fancier JBL stereo, the matte black spoke wheels, embroidered leather seats, and having Toyota engineered Fox shocks. I would strongly recommend getting a high quality window tint job done on it first thing. I splurged and did ceramic tint living in central Texas, and it pays dividends in the summer.

Good - You avoided the hassle. Especially having to change your username.

Black vehicles are a 'no' for me...

I had one. My wife likes black so 'we' have had a few... (- How come I have to clean it for it to be clean???)
(Her current black car is now listed for sale! :bananadance::bananadance::bananadance:)

    are you serious?
nothing looks better than a just detailed black vehicle still sitting in the shop,,,, nothing looks worse than just detailed black vehicle after you open the garage door to pull it out in to the real world.

Absolutely beautiful truck! I wasn't in the market to upgrade but I have checked around on some other Pros and I was given a great deal that night. I can't even get close to what they did. Lol, I still have the pictures to look at! That Pro drove great and looked awesome in black. Congratulations on your truck.

    Oh my!

$20 thousand dollars for a Hood scoop, leather seats & better shocks. Ouch.

@MGM 22, Black is beautiful, but a pain in the ass to keep clean. This was one of the reasons I went "baby puke" Taliban Tan. It hides everything very well.

Congrats on your Marty McFly starter kit!

PS: black vehicles are a true dichotomy. Nothing looks better after a wash and wax. But nothing shows road grime more when you drive it. You will rue the day but will smile when it is clean. Very Zen!
